original Leica 35/2 8-element VS. replica 35/2 8-element final retail version (Black Paint)

Original Leica 8-element was mounted on Leica m7, and the replica 8-element was mounted on Leica MP. Same shutter speed setting for every comparison shoots.

Film: Kodak TMAX400
Two films have been developed in the same batch to keep this a fair test.

Is the original first, followed by the replica?

The second picture in the series consistently seems a little lighter in tone (?)

I will keep secret this time, for now, to see how people react to this final stage comparison test. 🙂

I am looking for your guys' comments.

Cheers,
Kevin

My take: the first picture in each set is the replica and the second the original. The first picture is also slightly brighter in terms of exposure, suggesting a younger lens with better coatings. We also know from Kevin the replica is ever so slightly brighter.

Kevin: May we have some downloadable DNGs from an M10, showing: (a) both lenses focused on a distant scenery at infinity at f2 and f5.6 and (b) both lenses focused on a portrait at 0.7-1m at f2 and f5.6?

Thanks!!

The first image shows more details in the shade. Note the shadows of the tree branchaes on the left side about the most left sign on the wall.

These shadows do not show in the second image.

.

I first thought that maybe the sun rays have changed, but the top right part of each of these two images shows shadows.

The 1st image is less contrasty..could be the original..
I prefer the 1st image quality better..from a contrast POV..
Hopefully its the replica..
But I think not..

Of the two pictures that Raid posted, I prefer the first.

It shows results from the lens with better shade details. Most likely, it is the Leica lens, but he two lenses perform similarly. I am assuming that both lenses are SC.
Is the a major difference between the CV 35/1.4 SC and MC?

It's easy enough to spot the film images from the dust and other marks (2nd of each)!

But all are lovely. I can't wait for mine.

Both images sets were taken with film cameras.

Disagree regarding the shadows of the trees. It's more likely that the photos were taken during an overcast day, when cloud cover was variable. In the second photo of the trees and shadows on the wall, the reason we can see the shadows on the right hand side is because the objects are closer to the wall. As the tree branches move further from the wall, the shadows cast are weaker. So I would conclude that the difference in shadow strength in the two photos is due to changing light conditions.

Edit to add: I can barely see a difference between the original and the copy. That's an excellent replica.
