I know someone in China who use the replica 35 1.4 and 50 1.4 on film camera. The results looks really good. Sadly these lenses were not made for the mass public.

Kevin

Are such lenses more costly than the corresponding Leica lenses?!😱

Hah, I just made an account for this. I’m very interested in this but I found this thread too late. I’m assuming the first batch is fully reserved and starting to ship? Is there any word on a second batch? Will silver and brass colors still be available?

Also, is it possible to order this from Taobao or locally in China instead or is it better to go through you?

Copy or swipe others' innovations or intellectual property and replicate it for 1/10th the cost in the West without attribution, permission or recompense.

Response #1: Similar things were said about Japan 60 years ago. They turned manufacturing prowess into innovation, and the same will happen in China.

Response #2: Attribution, permission and license payments are overrated. I wish more good ideas were "stolen" and shared with a wider audience.

Once the patent has expired..
Its open season..

Leica would have done well years ago..to do special limited edition reissues of their beloved designs..
In conjunction with their pursuit of..sharper...and more contrasty..with more resolution..bigger and heavier..current offerings..
And not the 28mm f5.6..or the SF 90mm..for the big bux..
As in...who really needs those 2..

To all the people who interest in this lens

To all the people who interest in this lens

In the past few weeks, I continuously received emails from people who want to purchase the replica 8-element lens. Thank you very much for your interest and support. But I am sorry that all the lenses in the first batch have been reserved long ago, as I stated a few weeks before. And we are now having the Chinese New Year. People in China stop working and having their holidays. About the second batch of the replica lens, I haven't discussed with the maker yet as he and his team were still working on the first batch production. I will update this information in the future. Please stay tuned.

Definitely. It's vacation time.

Thank you, aizan. Yes, we will have to wait a little longer. The good news is the maker was starting to work on some of the early overseas orders now. Some people will receive the lens very soon once people in China back to work.

I can't wait for the New Year to be over - nothing to do with this lens, but the two chefs at a superb new Malaysian Chinese restaurant have returned home to Ipoh and it's shut for two weeks!

That's why we love diversity - you still have pizzas and burgers, Dianas, Lomos and FSU... 🙂

Happy Lunar New Year to Kevin, Mr. Zhou, and everyone else! I'm planning to head to my local Chinatown this weekend to photograph the sights and performances, and stuff my face with lots of good food. I'll probably use my Ultron 35/2 that I purchased last month, and maybe next year I'll use my brass 8 Element replica!

Kevin, wishing you, Mr. Zhou and all those working hard to make the 8 element a great success, a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
