[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

When I bought my M3 about 30 years ago, it came with many "goodies", such as two such lens hoods and another two Leica hoods of the type with cut-out.

I went to my bicycle repairman; he will cut off about 3mm from my generic 12504 (screw in) lens hood. I'm happy that he will do this for me, because this is the best solution. I have a small lens cap that fits into the shade. The generic shade with a screw mount of 39mm is much smaller than the 12504 itself. The hood/lens cap combination can now stay on the lens permanently.

I will polish the cut made by the repairman and blacken it with "Aluminium Black" from Birchwood Casey, a metal touch up.

Erik Would you show us a photo please? It sounds like an interesting modification.

Here are two shots of the modified shade. Some 3mm is removed from the front. The cut is finished with "Aluminium Black".

Now I have to make some test shots to see if everything is allright.

I continue to be amazed at the performance of the LLL 8 element.

I believe this was at f8 or f11, M9M, focus on the rail bridge. That’s a bald eagle nest on the right above the bridge:

This was wide open also on the M9M:

I dreamed about a set like this for years! Two great performing small brass lenses of 50mm and 35mm, Leica M mount, black painted, with fixed hoods and caps and of the highest mechanical and optical quality.

Typically, neither of them is made by Leica.

Color Skopar 50mm f/2.5 by Cosina and 35mm f/2 by LLL.
