[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

Lastly I thought all or most of the lenses were multi coated versions and that I hadn't heard of any single coated Ver. 1 lenses.

Dave (D&A)

No, they were mostly (all) single coated. I had originally ordered a MC version but when contacted by Kevin to pay for the lens switched to SC as the MC was not available.

From Kevin last June...

I just got a reply from the factory manager. So far, they still have no schedule for the MC version. We won't see it in a few months.

Only single coating chrome version is available in the second group.

Based on your (Emile) posting history in this thread, are you preparing to eat a meal of crow? 😀

The flurry of shipments appear temporally related to the recent activity on this thread, re-started by Emile. If this managed to pry loose a supply from Mr Zhou (or whatever alias he's going by this month), all the better. The pressure and bad press served its purpose.

It should give anyone pause when LLL's next replica, the 50/2 Elcan, materializes for sale.

I'd be happy to purchase Emile a beverage of his choice if he can shake my lens loose from LLL. I'm in the running to be the last to get one, and have still heard not a peep, having just celebrated the four-month anniversary of sending payment.

I'll give it another couple of weeks and then I'm going to start asking for my money back.

Nope..
If I hadnt harped a lot..right from the get go..starting last year..
And..
Complained to a connection friend of mine in the industry about all of this ad infinitum..
And those complaints eventually made their way back to LLL..
This probably wouldnt have been such a great month..
Not to mention..
This all should have been addressed and finished a long time ago..
Basically we/RFF were sidelined and forgotten..
What did you do to expedite this?
I thought so..

Thank you.

Mine is a V1 with amber coating. I think it arrived last summer sometime. I hope everyone gets theirs and enjoys it. Taken on the M246. I encourage you to look at the fine details in the landscape shot full size. Really an impressive showing, yet at more open apertures displays some nice glow for flattering portraits. There was minimal processing done in Silver Efex 2

Teddy, on Leica M digital, the replica can easily be identified by cooler rendition compared to the Leitz. The differences can be readily seen. Optically there are some differences too in the falloff of the depth of field BUT all in all its a very very good replica and worthy of high praise and definitely has a close fingerprint to the original 8 element. Again very pleased.

Dave (D&A)

I'm very satisfied with my Replica also Dave.
I view digital sensors like adjusting colour from C-41 (Color Neg)...
There's no standard, endless variables. So depending on the sensor - any lens will differ in one way or another.

I will be testing the Replica on Fuji Velvia and Provia when I get the time soon. This will be closer to a "standard".

For those waiting... Just had my email from Kevin saying the lens has passed his QC test and is ready to ship. Yes it has been a slow process but we knew that going in and Kevin has clearly been doing this on the side, so I have nothing but thanks for him and am very excited to get the lens.

Maybe I have been able to be more patient because I managed to get a LTM version of the lens from Wen-Li at SH Cameras at the beginning of the year (I contacted him after someone on here posted the details) he was fantastic to deal with, I can not recommend him enough!

The lens has been wonderful (so nice that I have been a bit hesitant to use it too much as the LTM seems too special to be abused when I have the 'normal version' on the way)... Now I need to decide if it is extravagant to have both 🙂! One on each of my bodies is very tempting thought, I think to use this is one of the nicest lenses I have held, and I worked in a Leica shop for 2 years so I think I have seen most lenses!

Received 2 emails this morning, confirming my lenses are tested an OK, and will be shipped, tomorrow I guess then.

Maarten After some emails I got a photo of mine and a 'will ship soon.' After two more weeks waiting and another email I finally got a DHL tracking #. You may have to keep after it..... that was my experience.

That's interesting! I always assumed it was mostly the reverse...in that most of us here at RRF received MC versions. I wonder how we can confirm which is accurate?

Dave (D&A)

The initial coating was tweaked past Chinese new year to improve the shadow detail, per post from Mr. Zhou.
