New to Leica lenses

Could someone tell me about the Leica lenses that have focal lengths of 'cm'? How do they differ from lenses of 'mm' lengths and what are they best for? I have seen many of them listed for sale, mounted on both old and 'new' Leicas and confess total ignorance! They also appear to be easier on the wallet in price.

1cm = 10mm, so a 5cm lens is a 50mm lens - simple as that.

They also appear to be easier on the wallet in price.

That's just because they're older - labeling focal lengths in cm is an older practice.

Less better coatings and less better detail in the corners overall from the older lenses.
