California (Bay Area, Northern) New to RFF -- Bay Area folks?

Yeah, Keeble & Shuchat would be a good starting point

Yeah, Keeble & Shuchat would be a good starting point

That part of Palo Alto works for me. We could eyeball the collection at Shuchat, enjoy some coffee and snacks at one of the various places on California Street, compare cameras, shots, etc.

Weekends are much better for me. During the week only leaves me with evenings and this time of year it gets dark too early.

Well, I'm even closer to PA so Keeble sounds great to me. There is a new starbucks there, though I don't know if it'll hold many people. Most of the shops there are pretty small. But I'm game, certainly. There's a convenient train station right there...

Hm. Well, here are my thoughts:

1 - the collection at Keeble is great. And the darkroom area, where that particular Leica/Leitz one is located, is a lot more fun to hang out in than the rest of the store. Much more chill and relaxed, and the folks there are great.

2 - I mentor in the city on Saturdays, so I wouldn't be able to join in until about 4PM. That's fine by me if it's fine by y'all.

3 - Going out and shooting is always fun, but I'm not sure how much is around there. Depends on what you want to do. Obviously Stanford is always scenic, and we could just wander around town or something. Or maybe to the baylands (though they can be kind of nasty this time of year)?

This really sounds like it could be fun. I'm free most Saturdays, other than 2/11 (when I'm organizing an outing with my photo club to Alcatraz, if you're game).

Well, provided it's not on a Saturday between about 8AM (ha) and 3PM, I want to come regardless of where it is. Also, I'm open to it being either a sit down and chat, a photo outing, or some combination.

However, it looks like we're running into the not-so-surprising issue of some wanting to be in SF, some wanting to be farther down the peninsula. Ray's idea of meeting in Burlingame was the compromise for that. At least it seems like a weekend afternoon is kind of okay.

I don't know what to propose, even. Melanie, Ray, Fred, and others - do you have preferences on location?

I'm willing to drive like 30-45 minutes, but if I'm going to travel it needs to be a weekend.

I don't know what Leica collection you're referring to, but it sounds like something I'd like to see. And it will make up for the fact that I may be going through withdrawal since by the time we meet up, I may have sent my M3 off for a CLA!

Count me in. My super-selfish preference would be SF but can be convinced to leave the city with the promise of beer...

I'm OK with just about anywhere, really. My schedule is getting wacky, and complicated, however, so I'll follow y'all's lead on dates and time. I wouldn't mind seeing the Leica collection,. That sounds cool. If it's a weekend day, and I can get away from the home for a few hours, then I'm going shooting too, somewhere, anywhere. :)

Weekend == must be a Saturday (cool).

Date:
This Saturday - probably too soon (comments?)
2/11 - Alcatraz and Chinese NY parade
2/18 - Hmmmm? I'm up for that

Time:
Keeble opens at 9:30. If we do this, I'll just skip out on my optional volunteer thing (I'm a floating mentor, so I can do that) I think there are 2 ways of looking at this:

-get lunch, then go look at Keeble, then go shooting as the sun gets a bit lower.

-go to keeble in the afternoon, perhaps shoot for a bit (somewhere), dinner, then perhaps shoot some night stuff some more.

where to shoot:
-downtown palo alto?
-stanford?
-downtown mountain view?
-what kinds of stuff do you guys like?

I'm a really crummy morning person, so afternoons are usually better for me. Especially on weekends.

I'm up for anything shooting-wise. I have no idea what I like to shoot. Right now anything is fair game, except that street photography (i.e., taking pictures of people I don't know) kind of freaks me out. (I know, Leica heresy.)
