....

I'ev been out this morning to Uppermill Art Gallery to see Oldham Photographic Societys exhibition and whilst there I tried out a few shots with the new L + 25/4 combo.

Paul

Thanks again Guys, 'Kuvvy' I'd like to see any local photos you've shot etc, do you have an online gallery?

Anyway, I've fired off 36 on the new Bessa and taken the film to ASDA to be told that they cannot develop it as its professional film :-( so its going to be a few days before I get that roll back. Still Ill see if I can shoot on a C41 process film tomorrow... watch this space :)

Yes Paul I have a gallery here at RFF and I also have one at

There are some shots taken locally eg Hollingworth Lake, Ramsbottom etc. Take a look and let me know what you think.

There's only four or five on there at the moment but it gives a good idea of what a 'digital' novice like me can achieve with the excellent film based rangefinders...

In fact I am having great fun combining the rock solid RF base photo with digital editing... Here's a quick example shot...

If I could get the R-D1 for a mere $1K as mail order I'd be the first to buy it. Let's see how much duties would add to the price.... I think I'd still be only talking some $1250 (or 1000 euros)!

Hiya,

the price in Hong Kong is about $2500 when I checked with a few dealers last week, I'm picking one up soon. They're swamped with units with the mis-calibrated rangefinder so you'd really need to get someone in the know who's willing to check it out for you if you're planning to get it through the mail.

Email me if you're interested, I don't mind sharing my experience.

Cheers,
Terence

That's a good effort Paul, I can only hope my first steps into the RF world will be like yours (though I'm going the digital route).

What sort of film did you use?

I remembered wrongly. The price quoted was not in US$ but in GBP. :( That would make it near to 1500 euros or so. Than adding the cost of going to HK etc. I would still be cheaper of than buying the camera here in Holland.

Is the price of $2500 in HK$ or in US$? If in US$ it's still too steep for me. I'll wait a bit longer a) for my vacation money and share in the company's profit to come in, b) for my bills having been paid and c) for a lower price for the R-D1.

Keep us posted on the prices in Asia if you will. I think many of us are interested in the R-D1 but put off by the prices in Europe and the US.

Given that HK$2500 = US$328, it's quite probable that its actually US$2500 :p

It's still a savings of $500 off the current US street prices, shipping will of course add a bit to the final total but not by much. I'm sure the price will drop in time but I doubt they'll go below the $2000 mark for a while to come.

Hi,

This was on a ISO 100, Fuji film, standard c-41 type

I am pretty impressed with how the camera handles low light and also how the camera's in built light meter gets it pretty accurate.

So far though I would say that it seems to slightly overexpose very bright (or white) shots by about 1 stop but this can easily be compensated for on the dial.
