New Website - China and more

Hi Colin,

Fantastic work. Loved the B/W China series. Going through the colour now.

Just some technical stuff. Firstly I really like the design - uncluttered and clean so you can concentrate on the images. But on my 16:9 monitor the top of the image is cropped if viewing in Firefox full screen. If I view the page as a smaller window on my desktop, it shows full image.

It is also slow to load each image and there doesn't seem to be any caching in the background?

Once again, wonderful images. Thanks for posting.

Cheers - John

I suggest adding some forward/backward image navigation. As of now I can only click the next thumbnail or use the arrows on my keyboard. Maybe make it so that clicking on the image advances to the next one.

Colin,
Very nice website, and your photos speak for themselves.
Have you considered creating a photobook with your photos in China?

I agree with comments above. Nice images but frustrating to navigate, I eventually became too annoyed to continue. You need image caching and simple navigation arrows.

Maybe an all thumbnail option. I'm not a big fan of "clever" viewing schemes.

Thanks for the objective viewpoints, all. I really do appreciate it...for the record, it was a WordPress template so I'm a bit limited in my design (although there's plenty of room for customizing, still).

Great looking site. The pictures load slowly, potential clients might not have enough patience to stick with it. Just something to think about.

Nicely designed site. I know others did, but I didn't find navigation a problem. I just used the right and left arrows on my keyboard to go forward and backwards--very intuitive to me. Plus, I can jump ahead with the mouse. I like that the images resize with the size of my browser. That part is impressive. Did you use a specific software to do that and for the site?

The photos are excellent, which is the most important part.

Colin: Very good pictures; they capture the people very well. I was in China 18 years ago and I have been wondering how much it has changed at the neighborhood level, given the prosperity of that period. Your pictures are the first that have seen that answer that question. (It looks remarkably similar, same folks, doing same things, but all are looking healthier and happier.)

Thanks, - Charlie

Colin - really strong work. The portfolio looks good full screen 🙂

The web interface worked fine for me - Mac Google Chrome on 24" monitor. Like that it's not in Flash.

Folks - I re-sized the photos, taking them down so they load quicker but still the same resolution and quality onscreen.

Should load and navigate noticeably more quickly now...thanks again for the objective viewpoints.
