New Xtrans2 model... Fuji XT10

Fuji waited too long on the X-Pro2. It, instead, went with me too style DSLR shapes instead of continuing with its uniqueness.

At some point hardware will need to be upgraded as well.

You're right, and Fuji was in a position to update the X-Pro1 in late 2013 (18 months after the X-Pro1 was announced), when the XE-2 came out. All the key hardware changes (X-Trans II, EXR II, etc.) were in place. And Fuji didn't do it.

I suspect that the X-Pro1 was a dog for sales (probably due to an overambitious MSRP, and they only way more lenses would get green lighted was for Fuji's development team to make the X line more like the NEX line. And, apparently now, to make the X-T line more like the OM line.

So yes, cynical marketing. Waiting for an organic sensor is a red herring, especially since the reports are that the organic sensor runs too hot and uses too much power.

If Fuji really wanted to do something slick, the would build a RAF to DNG engine that squeezes those nice Xtrans files into a form that Editing suites could more easily manipulate.

andy theoretically i really like what fuji is doing, especially with the constant software update/improvements. they stand behind their products better than any other company, and viscerally produce more interestingly designed hardware.

its with the xtrans that they lose me. i used the original x100 whose files i still love opposite the xp1, whose files i didnt even like. looking at your quote you obviously think the xtrans files are good. i know youve used non xtrans fujis as well and i respect your opinion. so my question is where do you find xtrans files superior to fujis original nonxtrans files? and how do you get to find their 'full potential' given that the editing suites you cite have difficulty translating them?

i would love the xt1/10 if they weren't so ugly (to me).
might as well get a real dslr and get all the good stuff that goes with them!
salesfolk have told me the killer for the xpro1 was size...it was too big for too many people...the xe1 took care of that and many people are waiting for the xe3 to arrive...people like me! i'd rather stick with the xe1 for the size and image quality than get an xt1/10...

Wait! I just bought an XE2, and now there's an XE3 on the horizon? WTF?

Never had this obsolescence problem with my M2!

(Just joking)

Haha. This thread is funny.

1. The x-pro2 is coming
2. Fujis lens lineup is the best in the biz.
3. Lightrooms x-trans raw rendering is just as good as anyone else's.
4. The sensors don't need to be updated. They hold their own against the 5d mkIII sensor which is more or less industry standard. It's very likely the x-pro2 will have the 24mp sony chip. It's pretty unlikely it will be much better than the 16mp unit.

The size of the X-Pro1 was exactly why I liked it... it felt like a RF in my hand. The X-E1 is cheap feeling in comparison IMO (of course based on price points, this should be the case).

Fuji are annoying me, really. They make small, and ever smaller cameras, but keep releasing huge lenses. Imagine the new 90mm on the x-T10. Almost as big as my Canon's 135m L. Non-sense.

I hope they will develop a whole parallel line of smaller lenses like the 35mm f2 to go with their bodies.

i love the feel of the xe1, fits perfectly in my hand...i even removed the grip i had on it and it just fits naturally into my girly hands...
originally i had the xpro1 and the xe1 as a kit, but sold the pro and got another xe1...

it would not surprise me if they did come out with a smaller line up eventually. they seem to be putting more thought and effort into their lenses than most other manufacturers...

Agree that a lineup of smaller, slower lenses would be a smart idea. Think of all the old lenses in the 2.8 - 3.5 range that we loved dearly. Useable digital ISO's are now in the 1250-3200 range.

Want to sell me that grip?

The 14mm, 18mm, 27mm, 35mm, (f1.4 and f2) and 16-50/18-55 are all really quite small. Compared to anything else besides rangefinder lenses. Even lenses like the 23mm f1.4 and 56mm f1.2 are usually about half the size of comparable full frame lenses. The only really big lenses they make are the f2.8 zoom, the telephoto zoom and the 90mm which is a tad smaller than equivalent 135s....

Right, but Fuji is not selling a DSLR. It's selling 18x24mm APS-C cameras. XF lenses are pretty much all bigger than their 24x36mm rangefinder equivalents.

Ok, but fuji is selling an APS-C alternative to APS-C and FF dSLRs. I believe a fair number of fuji shooters are converts from CaNikon dSLRs looking to drop kit weight and size, especially the wedding and event shooting crowd. XF lenses have AF motors and, in some, image stabilization like their dSLR equivalents, compared to which they are smaller and lighter.

As for prime lens comparisons b/w XF and rangefinder lenses, XF compare favorably in size and weight over at least a few focal lengths: XF 35/1.4 v Lux 50/1.4; XF 56/1.2 v Lux 75/1.4 among them. Not so much with the XF 23/1.4 v Lux 35/1.4, though.

This is *exactly* the digital camera I've been waiting for. Small, good quality, reasonable price. Along with the 18-55 f/2.8-4 OIS, this is perfect (for me) as a family snapshot camera. Nothing more, nothing less.

Pre-ordered.

P.S. I'm a former Fuji X user (XPro1), so I know what I'm getting into. The X-T1 was just a bit too pricey for my intended use. This is ideal.
