I just received a Yashica Electro 35 CC...I am so impressed!! I am loving it so far. Curiously, I also purchased a QL17GIII with it and am disliking it quite a bit..Even though the magnification on the QL17GIII is higher I find the RF/VF in the Yashica SO much easier to use and much, much more pleasant...It is, how could I describe it? Brighter, nicer, more contrasty..Even when I think the VF in my Petri 7S is not bad at all, the Yashica is well above it!!! Is this meant to be normal? Is it this a feature of all the Yashica cameras (I never owned one though I am considering a GSN or similar)? My disliking of the Canon is so(nothing wrong with the camera, I just don´t seem to get along with it..) that I am considering a trade for a GSN...Can I expect a VF as nice as the one in the 35CC?

thanks in advance..

E.

I have this pair also, and the viewfinder brightness is reversed: my ql17giii is a fair bit brighter than the CC. It is likely my CC needs a clean. However it has a more contrasting and smaller RF patch than the Canon. Personally I can't decide which I prefer between the two cameras, both are lots of fun and were dead cheap.

Yashica smartly uses a diamond shape for the patch instead of a square, and the patch is higher contrast against a somewhat darker surrounding area. This - to me, makes it one of the easiest to focus though it might not qualify as the "brightest" RF. The GSN has the too, but they took it to extremes with the CC. I have both cameras (CC and GSN). I prefer the GSN. It can be set to 1000 ASA and has a 1/500 to shutter speed, and has over/under lights on the top plate to premeter. I prefer the 45mm focal length of the GSN to the coveted 35/1.8 on the CC.

Aperture priority is the best system for RFs. Fast and intuitive giving you the highest level of control over what matters - the aperture. The CC, however, is much more compact, a "pretty" camera all in black relative to the larger and "Brady-er" GSN.

Thanks for the replies guys..I am afraid that the viewfinder in my Canon needs a check, after further examination it seems to be a bit foggy, and I can´t see a proper focusing patch..is this normal?? I find focusing with it extremely difficult and I suspect that it is not the way it is meant to be (specially in a camera everybody seems to like so much...). Does anybody know where I could sent it for a service(preferably in Europe)?

Thanks again, E.

FYI, I love my QL-17 and find it easy to focus with. I actually prefer shooting with it to the GSN, even though I prefer aperture priority in general (my DSLR is pretty much always set to it). You might want to try and have the RF cleaned out.

Just out of curiosity...I am very much in the market for a CC. Is it sort of between the QL17 and GSN in size? I find the GSN a little large for my liking. And I really prefer having a wider field of view than the 45mm on the GSN provides.

Hi. The CC is actually nearly the same size as the QL17GIII(just a bit taller). It is a really lovely camera, a joy to use, lovely viewfinder, but it does have it´s shortcomings: 1/250 top shutter speed, tops at 500 ISO, and gives no control or information over the shutter speed chosen by the camera. Just a warning if the speed is too low for handholding or if the top speed of 1/250 is too low (can be challenging to shoot during bright days). It is anyhow a really nice camera and I am enjoying it quite a bit..
