Helen: I'll definitely be there; Galfriend might have something else happening that day, but we'll see.

Great stuff! I should save up for a visit. :) (btw, just graduated from college and looking around for a job now, got an appointment meeting next week, fingers crossed).

New Yorkers are friendly.

Okay, this is misleading. This guard at the Brooklyn Museum was not hiding from my lens, but giving my wife and our friend Marcy directions.

Bedford Ave Brooklyn. A few blocks away from Bamonte's.

A child hood friend of mine married the daughter Laura Bamonte, great food. Had my graduation dinner there. Just try to avoid the patrons at the bar, capisce. ;)

My thought about "stealth photography" are to be as open about your intentions as possible and hide in plain sight. Own your space. But I'd never carry that big a camera all day long. He must have a relaly strong core lugging that thing around...

Louis' rig is big but does not weigh a lot. Perhaps as much as a Nikon F with a fifty on it.

Call me extreame, but before I got into rangefinder (only over the past year) I use to carry my Nikon F3P with a MD-4 motor drive all over the city. Depending on lens 5-7 pounds. A loud camera that survived Operation Dessert Storm as a real press camera.

I've never been to New York. This is a wonderful experience here though. Thanks to all for sharing. I just found a 2003 leica magazine with a story on Frieder Bickle and his some of his images from 1979 onwards. Well they are great but these photos in this thread deserve special mention. One Of These Days I hope to visit New York.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden...

I've never been to New York.

Go. Find a way. At some point. The place is a g*ddamned nodal point of some sort. Its indefatigable photographic density rewards the photographer far beyond investment. Its populace's unabashed forthrightness and immediate, utter sincerity, in the face of same, rewards the soul.

Pack plenty of twenty-dollar notes, and plenty of film, and your curiosity. And get on the boat.
