"In New York’s East Village neighborhood, home to a wide array of popular restaurants and bars, is a decades-old staple in the city’s famous food scene. Veselka, located in a smaller pocket of the area once known as “Little Ukraine”, now sits at the corner of food and international politics."

When you visit, get the perogies -- one order boiled, and one order fried. Comfort food of the highest order.

There is a Ukrainian area in Vancouver BC (Burnaby) with great restaurants too. One is called "Ukrainian Village" I think. One more reason I like Van
There is a small Russian "fast food" restaurant in Juneau Alaska, but I doubt they have any connection to the Aggressors. I've eaten there too much

I ate at Veselka a few years ago. Food was great and people were friendly. I will have to dig up some pictures.

Veselka—close to NYU and Washington Park. In NYC one can taste every dish of every culture that found its way to the US.

If I were closer, I’d stop by for one more coffee and some pierogis. I am horrified by what Russia is doing to a sovereign nation, can't overstate it.

This from a foodie - could someone please enlighten us on Ukrainian food/cuisine??
Here in Australia we have very few Ukrainians, and no cuisine-centric cafe or restaurant in Sydney or Melbourne as far as I know.
Genuinely curious.

Slavic, quite like Russian. Good, hearty, enjoyable. Polish and Slovak are close.

Veselka - Ukrainian East Village Restaurant, New York City
Since 1954, Veselka, a beloved Ukrainian restaurant, has been serving up Ukrainian food from the same location in the heart of the East Village, NYC.

I rarely get to NYC (am a Paris based Brit) but have enjoyed eating there on a couple of occasions.

Salo (food) - Wikipedia kept in the freezer. Serving is straight from the freezer via thin slices on rie bread. One vodka shot, one slice on the bread. Do not go for cholesterol checkups on next following days. This one you could cook at home: Ukrainian Red Borscht Soup

There are heaps of Ukrainians and Ukrainian places. Mavka in Waitara, or Kiev Social in Chippendale, both in Sydney or Little Odessa in Melbourne as a start. Ukrainian Clubs in all cites including Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. This from a foodie - could someone please enlighten us on Ukrainian food/cuisine??

The threads on this board are amazing. Has there ever been one posted that elicited an "I dunno"? Yes, there are a lot of folks subscribed. But the board is never stumped that I have seen. Amazing. Good recipes, too. Borscht with sour cream. And a steaming, peeled boiled potato alongside. Oh, yum.

To me, this was the diner you went to late at night when you were drunk in that area...
I mean, it had a typical diner menu with Ukrainian additions. Good though...

I’ve never been to Veselka but used to frequent that neighborhood and the Kiev Restaurant a block away was an institution for the red eyed crowd and you gotta order the chicken Kiev.
