With the brand new ZI camera is it possible to mount 85mm 2:0 lens for contax IIa .
The price for the 85mm ZI lens is so high !! :bang:

The new ZI is M mount, so no Contax lenses :(

But there is good news, too. You have a great choice of Leica Screw and M mount lenses to use on the ZI.

Adaptator to Mmount

Adaptator to Mmount

I have seen on e bay that adaptator exists to put Zeiss contax rangefinder lenses on a Leica M . This tool can it be used on the new ZI ?

The ZI is M-mount so the adaptor should work on it just as well as on a Leica M-mount. The ZI 85 frame lines are equivalent to the 90 frame lines of an M2, so it is usable with 90 mm lenses as well as 85 mm lenses.

Just don't expect to attach a 75 mm lens and get appropriate frame lines. You get the 50mm frame lines instead. Jsust a word of warning. I had a ZI for 1 day and returned it for that reason. Gorgeous camera except for that little problem. Awesome viewfinder.

Can;t you select the framelines manually as well?

I would go for a used 85mm lens or a 90mm lens in M mount

True enough for a Leica lens, but if you opt for the excellent CV 75/2.5 Color-Heliar, you just change to a 90 adaptor since it's an LTM lens. It's workable with the 85 frame lines.

There is a lever to view through alternate frame lines, but it's like a Leica - no permanent frame selector.

Haven't seen it advertised anywhere, but looks like it'll be at or above the range of new leica lenses

is the zm 85 available for sale yet?

and does anyone know the price?

i haven't seen any advertised for yet.

I believe its out in May. For some reason I want to say that the price will be in the $2795 area... and its huge.

For a bit less than half the price than the ZM 85/2 Planar, you can still get the Rollei 80/2.8 Planar in LTM to use on the ZI or any Leica body. Optically it's the same as the 80/2.8 on the legendary TLR Rolleiflex 2.8F which should be spectacular with a nice Zeiss fingerprint. I saw a mint one up for sale on the Leica forum at Photo.net for about $1000. Also well reviewed in Popular Photography FWIW.

You can also get a Leica 90 cron pre-asph for $900 or less. It brings up the
85 framelines on the ZI.

Bought the ZM25 and later also bought the Zeiss 25/28 viewfinder from CameraQuest and love 'em both. Replacing a slower and much older Canon 25 because of the obvious speed advantage but also because the Zeiss handles so much better and is faster to focus. I did borrow the Leica 24mm last October for a day: liked the results but not the price or the karger size of the lens. The ZM25 with the Zeiss finder is a sure winner! My only beef with Zeiss is the poorly designed lens cap which is very hard to easily grab, remove or even keep in place while in motion. I solved this vexing problem by buying a cheap, metal, screw-in cap, size 46mm. This screw-in cap even works within the confines of the Zeiss lens hood. I tried the CV25 finder but found it lacking when shooting in darker environments. The Zeiss finder IS worth the extra bucks. -g

Funny, when I owned the ZM 50/2 Planar, I thought the lens cap design was the best engineered design ever made. It's dual grips allowing usage without lens shade removal.

IF Zeiss would put two tiny plastic bumps where your fingernails fall when you attempt to grasp their lens cap, things would improve exponentially. But absent that, the metal screw-in cap works way better for me.

I usually leave the lens caps at home. Briefly, the vertical striations make it more difficult to grip. Horizontal striations would have worked better, I believe, and would have made the overall design work much better.

try the nikkor 85/2

try the nikkor 85/2

Hi, I have a nikkor LTM 85/2 that I use and LOVE. tack sharp and gorgeous imagery... and $285 on ebay, i think.

the old 90/4 elmar is also cheap and a great option, if you dont mind f4.

good luck!
