Does anyone know if the upcoming Zeiss 24/1.8 made for the NEX will be able to be adapted to the R-D1 or M8? Since there would be no RF coupling I guess it would be scale focus - but could it be modified?

I don't know, but I think the NEX lens register is the shortest among modern cameras. You can easily mount nearly every lens made on it. So a native E-mount lens will probably not focus to infinity anywhere else.

NEX lenses are all electronic, so you'd have no way of changing the aperture or focusing, even if you could fit it onto the M8.

NEX or M43 lenses are not adaptable to Leica M.
mounting them would put them in permanent close up mode.

No you would not be able to stick the zeiss 24 on another camera unless you wanted a macro like lens that could only focus at one position and one aperture. Also the image circle would not cover a M8, though it would cover a RD1 but it would never work.
