Just got my new ZI yesterday...sweet camera and what a great viewfinder, except when I inspected it this morning with a lens (50 lux), the right frameline seemed thin (compared to the other three lines) and would disappear (just about) in lower light.
If you touch the frame selector lever a bit the line would become crisp and clear like the others...which would lead me to believe this is a defective camera?
The 35 frame came up just fine with a CV lens. (I only have two lens to test this camera with)
Has anyone heard of this problem? I'm thinking this shoud just go back to the dealer for replacement?
(sigh)

I think it got a sticky frame line lever. You might want to exercise the frame line lever a bit. Move that lever back and forth while you're playing with the camera. that's what i did with my M4 .

Mine as well. The 50 right side frame line width seems thinner than the left when I mount Leica 50 lenses on. What's more the framelines are all framing less than Leica camera.

Does the right side frame line appear less thin when a non-leica lens is mounted?
Have you just been dealing with this problem or just not used leica glass on the ZI?
I just got this email from the dealer I just bought the camera from:
“sound like the camera may need repair ,
I will e-mail you later on how and what to do .
I sent your e-mail to my zeiss sales rep and he will advise soon .”

Planted tao,
Can't say about other 50s 'coz I only have Leica 50s. I have Summicron, Summer, Elmar M, Noctilux and they are all the same on the ZI. I use a Blu-Tack to hold the frame selector in place when I shoot with the 50s.
There is problem of the 50 lines when using a Tri-Elmar. But that's another story.
Other than the 50 lines problem, and narrower angle of view for all framelines, and the shutter speed dial coming loose, and unintentionally pushing the rewind button underneath the camera causing overlapping of frames, and not able to find a suitable hand grip, and the tacky rubber covering dissolving (maybe just mine), and the lost of the external flash socket cap on first day, and not able to see the red diodes reading in bright environment, .....everything is just great with the ZI
Cheers and good luck.

Damn, today I've lost mine - do you know where to get a new one?

I just checked with my ZI. Usually the framelines "snap in" when you lock the lens. A very slight abrasion on the lens' bajonet flange might cause the half-visible framelines but a slightly misaligned frameline detector seems to me more probable. Check with a brand new 50mm lens and decide then.
