I attended a workshop with Michael Hintlian at Mass Art in Boston during September and October. During this period, the class was meeting on Saturdays: one for shooting, another for reviewing work. From those 4 'shooting' days we were expected to bring a couple (10-15) 'A' edits from each day. We ended up with an 'A' and 'B' edit that were discussed through with Michael and all attendees. As a personal exercise, I set myself the goal to sequence this work in a way that felt true and honest to me. It was a hard task given the fact that I tend to see these kind of projects more in a long term and having only 4 days of shooting to edit from felt a bit 'superficial', but I decided to give it a try. Also during the month of the workshop, me and my girlfriend traveled to Tulsa to see Paul McCartney concert and happened to also meet Bono and The Edge just because we also met Jay Blakesberg during a visit to Woody Guthrie museum (he was so kind to us and revealed that the U2 guys would be visiting the museum in a couple minutes). All those things came together when I was looking for inspiration and so decided to title the zine 'Carry That Weight'.
If anyone is interested in the zine (limited print run of 50 copies, 36 photos, A5 size on 100lb satin paper, signed and numbered, all shot on black and white film), I should have some copies left available on my website: Carry That Weight - Zine — Raphael Lehnen
