New ZM lens in 2013

That lens is not in the ZM line and I don't believe the quoted person meant technically weak. I believe he meant 'weak' as in the 85+ focal length does not have a variety of Zeiss lens options.

That is correct. The Sonnar being already discontinued, the remaining tele Tessar is not enough luminous even though of very high iq wide open. No 135 available either. I think an 85/2.8 or 85/2 would be a great addition. Otherwise, the ZM line is very strong and there is nothing I really want to change there.

For my part, I would like to see two classic focal lengths/apertures:

35/1.4 Biogon
50/1.4 Planar

I bet these would rock 😉

I'd love to see a 21mm or 24mm f/1.4.

The ZM line up is already good, but there is no alternative to Leica's 21 and 24mm Summilux's. If Zeiss could hit the USD 3,000 mark for one of those lenses I'd seriously consider it.

It will be an Apo Planar 50mm f1.4 that sells for $6500. One stop faster than the new Apo Summicron 50mm f2 and ... $500 less cheese to slice out of your block to get it. 😀

My guess: 25mm F2

Maybe: 35mm 1,4

21 and 24 summiluxes are great shows of Leica's strength but a 24mm F2 would have been more practical.

This Zeiss to-be announcement has me far more interested than anything Leica is rumored to be announcing.

The two most likely lenses are 25/2 or 35/1.4, since they mentioned mirrorless, anything longer would be pointless on 1.5x...

I have my fingers crossed for a 35/1.4, but it better be no larger than the 25/2.8 they have, 46mm filter size, and no more than $2000. I already have the great VM 35/1.2ii, I like everything about it except the size, so anything larger than 46mm is no use for me.

Any would be very good, but significantly larger than the Leica alternative if available.
Voigtlander already do a great 35/1.2, a tiny 35/1.4, and a pretty good 28/2.

I think a really good 25/2 ZM biogon is what Zeiss will produce. It won't be small, but it will be good.
