Typical. After reading this thread I was patting myself on the back about how I picked a "good" 4K when, yes, it broke. I wound the film and it just kept winding and winding and winding without cocking the shutter. I noticed, after I opened it, that the whole curtain is gone.
Did you check the rewind collar was all the way up? I can make my Zorki 4 do what you describe by turning the rewind collar to "rewind" and then try to cock the shutter. For winding, the first curtain seems to be coupled to the sprocket transport, which is dis-engaged.
Well, I've tried playing with the rewind collar, but it appears to be jammed/stuck. I can't get it to budge. It'd be nice to get it working again; I miss that "tank" feel. If not, I'll turn it into a very heavy pinhole or something.
valahed! That was it! I went in and took a good look. Looked as if the shutter button wasn't coming all the way back up and therefore the "pegs" weren't meeting up. It took a little force, but I had to rotate the shutter button back and forth slightly and then, POP: it all went back into place and everything works great again.
It could probably use a good CLA, but as Gene mentioned, sometimes it's easier and cheaper to just get a new one.
Kirk, that's exactly how my new Zorki was when it arrived. It was just spinning air. I found I needed to be rather firm with the rewind knob before it finally released and came up to meet the shutter-cocking pin.
Since then, it has had no problems, both to my relief and Yuri's who had just sent me this replacement.
