Newbe.....What is the story with this Leica

Judging from the shutter speed dial configuration (with the fast and slow speeds separate, but on the same dial) I'd say so. I'll bet our resident FSU camera fans can pinpoint the exact FED or Zorki model from which this "Leica" sprang.

Still, it's kind of cute, even if the color scheme is a bit lurid. Reminds me a bit of a 7-year-old playing dress-up in mom's makeup and power suit...

Yep, I do believe that's a Fed dressed up to look something like a Lieca might sorta look like. The lens, on that one, is the main giveaway as I really doubt that the germans ever made a lens as butt ugly as the Industars. I really don't understand the attraction - I'd much rather a nice original Fed or Zorki myself.

That is a Zorki, repainted and re-engraved to say Leica. It does not resemble any Leica made by Leitz. There are some more convincing fakes made from Fed1 and Zorki 1 cameras which are much closer in appearance to a pre-war Leica II.

Now, as far as Russian/Ukranian Leica Thread Mount rangefinder cameras. They have quite a following, and are capabile of taking quite good photos, and they accept Leica Thread Mount lenses. They can be purchased in good condition, for less money, if they have not been turned into "fake" Leica's.

This one seems fairly subdued compared to some I've seen. Look at the thread"what are they smoking in the Ukraine" for something a little more dramatic.

It's one of the nicest fake leicas I've ever seen, it isn't full of nazi symbols or other weird symbols. And it has the very rare 1:3.5 sumicron 😀 🙄 I had never seen that lens before 😛 If it has the same price as a real fed, i would certainly buy this one. Unforunately 200$ is to expensive 🙁

It's a Zorki C (or S depending on which alphabet you use) The C was the first model after the Zorki 2. The higher top was added to make room for flash sync. It's one of the least sought Zorkis although not a bad camera. The C doesn't have a self-timer -- the 2C does. The C and 2C have been described as a "Zorki 1 that has been beaten with an ugly stick." A C or 2C not dressed up to look like a Leica usually goes for about 30 bucks.

That's the nicest Zorki-S (Zorki-C) I've ever seen. Too bad the originals didn't look like this.

It gives me some inspiration on what to do with mine.

For those who aren't crazy enough to collect these cameras, the Zorki-2C has neckstrap lugs while the Zorki-C does not. They are the direct ancestors of the Zorki-5 and Zorki-6.
