Hello all,

I'm looking for some information about using canon and nikon lenses on my m3. Basically am I looking at lenses marked as being for canon rf and nikon rf?
Will they be marked as ltm lenses? And since I believe they will need an adaptor so that they can mount on my M where would I purchase such an adaptor?

Thanks for any help you can give.

All canon lenses are ltm, except the 50 f/.95. Nikon made many of their lenses in ltm, as well as nikon and contax mount. They won't be marked, but the ltm lenses are distinguishable just by looking at the rear of the lens. The ltm versions will have a thread mount, the others won't. (usually a large ring, with a movable tab) Adapters can be had new from cameraquest and a few other places, or you can try ebay for used ones.

If you want to bring up the right framelines you'll need to find the proper adapter. For other lenses (anything not a 50, 90, or 135) you can use any adapter, but you will also need an external viewfinder for framing.

Good luck, and I hope you have fun with your M3.

Although it should be noted that Canon and Nikon "for some strange reason", also made a lot of SLR lenses. Nikon even made lenses for medium and large format cameras.

So, you are best to look for Canon and Nikon lenses made for Leica Thread Mount. These lenses were made from about 1948 to 1968.
