newbie question

I've noticed that almost everytime I'm shooting at night and there is a light source (or many) in the frame I'll get a series of round halos around the light spot, which doesn't happen in film shots. It will happen with every lens I have.

Similar thing used to happen to shots with my GX100 and LX3.

Is that a digital thing? R-D1's? MY R-D1's? I'm curious about what might be causing this...

Looks like no one will answer your question. Well this phenomena (halos arund light sources) is very normal with RD1 in such situations and lighting. I have them too. I think they are the result of a very opened lens. I will try f16 on a tripod and shutterspeeds of several seconds next time. The results must be very funny (blurring) but the halos must be eliminated.

I have those halos in some of my night photos, although I also have many with digitals (including R-D1) that do not exhibit them. I assume the flare comes from light reflected off the sensor and back. Like George already said, it probably depends on the aperture used. See how they are more pronounced towards the edges and pointing away from the center of the image.
