I've just acquired, on that auction web site, the name of which we must
not speak, a truly immaculate anniversary edition R3M with a 50mm f2
Heliar Classic lens.

This is my first venture into rangefinder focussing and I'm unable to
exactly superimpose the images in the 'patch' - one image is always
very slightly higher , i.e. further up the patch, than the other. I've
shot the first film this morning and have not yet seen the results so I
perhaps should have left my query until I have seen them, but I
wondered whether this was normal with rangefinder focussing.

TIA

Merrill

I experience the same thing with the R3A. If my eye is not centered in the VF eyepiece, there appears to be vertical misalignment. This must be something to do with the 1:1 finder of the R3, because I never see this when using the R4. Try to center your eye in the eyepiece and see if the problem goes away.

Thank you, Pitxu, biomed and payasam for your helpful responses. I'll certainly try keeping my eye centred in the VF eyepiece. If that doesn't solve the problem, I don't think I have the 'bottle' to attempt to put the vertical misalignment right myself so I may well send it off to Robert White to have the work done.

Best Wishes

Merrill
