Newest M models: M7 or MP?

I regularly use by M7 with a motor and a 'softie' - they just seem to go very well together. The combination would be impossible on a Leica without the shutter lock.

Your views on the MP are very interesting Mark. I'll have to see if I can borrow one for a while and find out how I get on.

The only downside of the MP is the retro film rewind knob, making it slower to rewind film.

but it looks much nicer, doesn't it? these shopping dilemmas have a lot more to do with design than most people will admit.

I have both M7 and MP. The MP is a fine camera but I believe same as the M6.
The M7 is nicer in the way that it is automatic with Aperture priority, you know this.
There is a difference in the use though, really easier.
With the M7 you just point and shoot and can forget about adjusting the LEDs, or you can run in just use it like the M6/MP.
The M7 has truly the best slow speeds of all other Leicas, the shutter is incredibly smouth. That is really a pleasure to take pictures with this Camera.

Paul, I remember your M7 setup now from another thread. That makes a lot of sense, and I can easily see why the shutter lock is a requirement.

As I mentioned, I originally thought that the old style (smaller) shutter speed dial would be more of a problem that is. A more practical difference (IMHO) is the way the newer dial turns in relation to the shutter speed. It just makes more sense to the brain when using the LED arrows in the VF. Once I began using my MP more though, I found it easy to adjust to the opposite direction. But NOW the inconvenience for me is trying to switch back and forth between cameras. I would love to eventually sell my M6 TTL 0.58x for another MP with 0.58x VF. But that would probably require going ala carte at this point, which I just cannot afford.

I would love to eventually sell my M6 TTL 0.58x for another MP with 0.58x VF.

I am also on the lookout for a used 0.58x MP, but they are as scarce as hens teeth.

I just found one and boy is it worth it. Finances will dictate if I can hang onto it (its mint as new Chrome), but the VF makes a 28mm the pleasure it never was on a 0.72. I think paired with a 0.85 with a 50mm this is a great combo. The other handy thing about the 0.58 is that if you are doing work conducive to zone focusing the 35mm frames show a fair amount of space so you can see things coming and going. A 0.72 would be better for more critically focused, wide open use, but for f11 and working fast its fantastic.

If any camera represents everything I hoped to get out of an M, it is the 0.58 MP. Hang in there, they do come up.

I believe you're quoting me, but you left out the poster's name, so with my memory I cannot always be sure. 😛

I'm not sure what you mean by your question. If you mean, how else does the MP compare to my M6 TTL, the differences have been addressed more times than necessary on this forum. But to be blunt, the MP is a better built camera, with a better VF and a smoother, quieter shutter.
