After only a weekend waiting, and NO hassles at all ( thanks go out to Jim- couriercam) I have joined the ranks of the R-D1 team.
With the horror stories that some of the members have told ( non-existant camera) I was a bit nervous about sending money for a body without first seeing/touching the product.
I Paypal'ed the money out to his account, 2 or 3 instant messages back and forth, and the transaction was effortless. (i hope he felt the same, i kept the messages down to 1 a day as a status update. to not "Bug" him, being busy with starting up a newspaper.)
See - there are great folks to be found.
Very secure packaging, I Popped on 5 different screwmount/M-mount leica and CV lenes - tried the batteries and SD cards - wonderful color and BW images. (jpg/raw).
Luigi leather case what luxury.
Enough rambling.!!
Sorry -- i dont usually post much (~couple yrs -only 70something posts) --- but this one deserved a few words.
thanks Jim - best of luck on your Newspaper.

the rd1 is a joy, i like it more each day.
today i was looking at a shot taken with the rd1 and an old canon 100/3.5 ltm lens and it made me want to buy more lenses.
this camera has added another element of excitement to my photography.

The best camera is one that still works!
And the case is the Luigi grip style ... if I had my way I would have one of those for every 35mm camera I own and use. They are just simply superb!
Congrats on the new Epson RD-1s by the way.

Congratulations Steve,
I'm sure you'll enjoy your R-D1 a lot.
Hmmm, I should hurry up and post some pictures of that British Sports Car gaterhing I shot with the R-D1 last Sunday.

A side note to this thread - I Updated the firmware today (was painless) from v1 to v.2.0 -now has all 13 upgraded options. jpg&raw, better buffer, quick_view, enhanced noise reduction, etc. (thanks go out to Rich Cutler site)
-- anyone else having performed the upgrade on their RD1 find it just as easy?

Congratulation Steve.
Do you have a grip for the R-D1? If you do, can you tell me who makes it.
Do I also need to upgrade the firmware for my R-D1s?
Thanks

No problems yet? Sorry to say, but you will. I've shied away from it due all the rants, moans, groans, etc. here. I wish Epson or somebody else would produce a reliable, digital RF/ LTM performer.

Hats off to Jim for sending me what he called a "NICE" Serenar lens. It was.

I haven't had any problems with mine in almost 2 years.

Sorry to hear that some users are not fully happy with the RD1, What should I(we) look out for?
(PS - I said I would post an image if I shot anything interesting, without going outside, I was doing some more "testing", and shot this "get-up" on my M3 (Visio with bellows ) for intensely close close-ups (near microscopic). shots fill the frame with a US nickel.)
