Hello, I am not only new to this forum but also new to RF.
I have been active in the film Pentax forum and indeed have a nice small collection of Pentax glass and camera in 35 and MF. I also have an Hasselblad 500 and love MF B&W. But I had been having Leica RF ideas at the back of my mind for some time (like if I needed more camera and lenses). Looking at my disposible income (already disposed to be truthful) and looking at the Canon P, I could not keep my mouse out of eBay. To conclude my introduction I have "en route" a P, 35/2.8, 55/1.8, 100/3.5 and Jupiter 12/35mm and 8/50mm.
Because I like a nice camera system and could have some vanity when it come to this subject, I was considering getting a half case for the P to keep the chrome plate in good condition.
The de luxe Italian supplier is out of the question based on price, but there is on eBay the following "Zhou Black Leather Case for Canon P"

that looks very nice if not cheap in price.
Does anybody as some experience regarding quality and ergonomics of the product?

Cheers,

Luc

Welcome to the RFF Ibenac!

Canon P is a good choice. You have a nice set of lenses there too. The Canon 50mm/1.8 is perhaps my own favourite. Btw. Canon RF lenses mount so that the focus mark is a bit left from the upright position. Be very careful with the Jupiter-12. It might slightly touch the light baffles inside your camera body when you mount it.

Mr. Zhou half cases are of very good quality.

The Zhou cases are excellent. I've owned several. They are made of nice leather and are very well made. The 'bump' that's built into the front of the Zhou cases feels great and provides an excellent grip. Highly recommended.

Welcome to rangefinders!

Thank you all for the welcome and comments.
I will wait to get a feel for the camera and then might get one of these case. I usually do not use a strap but then the leather strap calls for his leather strap....from a purely esthetically point of view.

Cheers,

Luc

Zhou cases are great.

However, the Canon P feels and looks best without any case at all. A really nice and very robust camera.

Well I could not help it and fell for Mr.Zhou case and strap. I decided to make a fashion statement to compensate for my week-end dirty cargo pants.

In the process I also ordered a FED-3 from Ukraine which according to the vendor has been CLA. That way I do not have to worry about the Jupiter-8 not fitting in the Canon P.

Cheers,

Luc

Also considered getting the Zhou, but decided to get an original P case on ebay instead, because the strap lugs are off to the sides so the camera hangs flat on my body. But the Zhou model does look sweet, and am springing for the Zhou strap.

Nice lens collection. Cheers!

I have the de luxe Italian case for my Leica CL, but one thing to keep in mind is that the body portion of my Canon AE-1 case fits my Canon P, and the AE-1 cases may be cheaper than the Zhou case.

Well, all the items are coming bit by bit.
I received the Canon P, the 50/1.8 and the 100/3.5. This is such a "cute" lens and looks very sharp.
I ran the first roll - TriX 400 at ISO 800 in Rodinal Stand.

I found that some of the neg on the roll are showing overexposure on one or two side but I suspect the development is the culprit as I screw-up mounting the negative on the SS reel. Mounting 120 is a snap but 135 always get me struggling.

Cheers,

Luc

I think the Canon P has an extremely durable finish. The metal must be thicker, so it resists dings. And the Chrome is indeed very robust. You may get bright lines, but it will be very resistant to scratches through the chrome.

I agree with ferider-- the Canon P looks good naked.

The 100/3.5 is an interesting lens. It's technically not a telephoto (it doesn't have the telephoto lens group) but a sort of long normal lens. It's really sharp and very easy to carry along as it doesn't weight much more than a cigar.

Finally took the 35/2.8 for a spin and like it very much

I got a set of Walz filters for cheap but there are showing there age.

Welcome to RFF, Luc, from your neighbor across the border. Very nice pics to start off with your "new" Canon. I've only briefly used a Vt DeLuxe years ago with a 135mm for some portraits, but I recall it as very solid quality gear.

For info, RFF has a companion site for SLR, both film and digital, see DSLReXchange under Cool Links in the sidebar at the left. Rather quiet there, but the Gallery is good and you could review prior discussion threads. Besides, the Moderator there is a Pentax fan. 🙂

For that matter, there's plenty of SLR discussion here in RFF, so just click "Forums" in the navigation bar at the top of the window and poke around!
