Seriously, what do the people suppose to happen after they publish a picture in electronic form? When a bunch of my work wound up at a US "stock" agency after my formerly reputable German agent was bought up by investment bankers, the stuff (press and travel photos) wound up in just about every third-rate advertising application imaginable. And the web at large is even worse than stock agencies - that family can be happy their picture did not turn into an ad for Viagra, masturbation aids or some neo-fascist party.

Did you get some royalties or did they rip you off completely?

They paid - but of course their rates, which were considerably less.

I'm afraid it gets worse... The image was used last week on the BBC website on their front page.

I posted this as well, as in the How Low Res? thread. I got the impression from the story that they posted a hi res file.
Did the BBC use it as a news item? It may fall under fair use.
The guy in the Czech restaurant seemed a decent type, though it was unlikely anyone who knew them would ever see it in Prague. Did not seem like "European Vacation" use. ;-)
Are stock photos that expensive? I seem to recall the last time I saw any prices that they were high volume low cost, at least many of them?
I bought some photo CD's years back in Prague quite reasonably, and have forgotten about them, if I run across them I will look at the file size and the boiler plate. I intended them for personal use, and they were sold commercially probably in bookstores and at Photo Skoda.
