I have a FDA-EV1S on order since November. Sony has given the dealer 2 dates for delivery, now I contacted Sony directly and they show that the EVF will have its next USA shipment in mid February.
That is going to be one third of a year. Funny, Hong Kong guys have lots of them, but I would like to have someone in the USA to deal with if the thing breaks.
Maybe Sony should get on the stick

My backorder in November from PC Connection arrived last night. I was quite surprised, as I had no notice it was finally in stock and shipping.
First impression is very good. I find it better than using the LCD panel, since I'm further away from the panel, whereas the EVF up against my glasses and the whole shot fills my vision. For the low-light shots I tried in the house (It was 8pm when I got home and discovered it), focus peaking wouldn't highlight many of the areas I was trying to target. But the 9.5x zoom through the EVF made it pretty easy to get the focus right.
I could come close using the LCD panel, but I'd always move a bit since how I needed to look/concentrate on the panel wasn't exactly how I ended up holding/viewing the camera for the actual shot. With the EVF, I can focus with the MF-Assist, half-press the shutter to dismiss the assist, and still have the camera in the same spot to take the picture - No subtle movements to change my distance to the shot.
