Anyone tried the NEX 6 yet? Any thoughts on this new body? How does it compare to NEX 7/5/5n/etc?

Just curious.

I got my NEX-6 last week. It's a great little camera ! I use to have the NEX-5. The EVF is a great addition. I'm glad that they put the standard hot shoe on top of it. The IQ is great, the ISO are very good. Even the pop up flash gives good results. The camera feels solid. Overall, it's a great photographic tool. I've been using it with my M glass (12mm, 28mm and 50mm). Also, there is no colorshift in the corners with the 12mm (unlike with the NEX-5). I'll test it in the White Moutains this weekend !

Awesome. Looks like a real beaut'...I'm curious to see samples of your stuff. This camera almost has me thinking of going the NEX route.
 
Wow very impressive, i'll wait for the prices to drop on this.

For now my little C3 does well 🙂 Love manual focusing on it.

I found it easy to use. Focus peaking is a great addition (although it doesn't work well in low light IMO). With EVF makes it even easier. Coming from an M8, I think it's not really slower to MF on the NEX-6. But I guess I'm just use to it. I use to have my NEX-5 without peaking with the Nikon 17-35mm. I have to admit, this camera is pretty tempting simply for mounting my M-glass. Price is about right, sensor is nice, built-in EVF...all looks good.

How is the EVF?

The EVF is very good. Way better than the one there was on the X100... It is very similar to the one used in the Fuji X-E1. The vendor told me they were the same but Sony used a faster refresh rate. I never verify that info.
 
I'am torn between this and the fuji XE-1. The sony doesn't seem to have a lot of good lenses while the fuji lenses seem to be much better (I really don't care about legacy glass).
 
I'm with you stompyq. I am looking for an alternative to using my Canon 5Dll on certain kinds of photo jobs. The NEX-6 is tempting, but the optical offerings aren't there. The X-E1 is looking better all the time, Especially since Fuji glass is top notch and I like what Fuji is planning for the future. I know Zeiss and others are planning to offer lenses for these, but the Zeiss glass might end up being prohibitively expensive.

which adapter are you using for your M glass?
 
I had a look at the NEX6 today and was very impressed with the feel and build quality of the thing. The EVF seemed to be a real plus over my NEX5. Also saw some high ISO shots (1600 and 3200) from a friends NEX7, very impressive!

I am seriously considering buying further into the NEX system either 6 or 7, but can't decide which at the moment.

I only bought the 5N as a stop gap while Fuji and Adobe sort out the RAW conversion issues with the X PRO 1. The 5N RAW's fly through LR so easily. The NEX has really got my attention. Its good to see they are taking the mirrorless thing seriously, but, they really have to work on the lenses.

If anyone has any direct comparisons between 6 and 7 I'd love to see them.

I too am wondering a bit about this. I was buying some film yesterday and took the chance to fiddle a bit with the x-pro 1 as I wanted to compare that to the xe1 when they have both in store.

I was asking how it would look using m glass but they didn't have the Fuji adapter right then. Instead I put my lens, which I had with me, on a nex-7 with an adapter they did have and I must say it felt really good to hold it.

I never thought twice about the nex cameras before, I have a psychological problem with owning a Sony camera. 🙂 but I may have to reevaluate that when I check out the xe1 as well. If I'm going to go evf only the nex is an option I guess.

The upside is that Aperture supports the raw files as well. Also, I had a quick go with the focus peaking as well as I had never experienced that before. My initial reaction though was a bit like "wtf??". It didn't make any sense to me at all, I found it extremely confusing and couldn't manage to focus at all basically. So the question is how much of a problem it would be not having it on the Fuji. Then again, like everything else I guess it takes some getting used to.
 
Coming from a year with the Nex-5N, the Nex-6 is a major improvement in terms of handling/menus. Manual focusing is fine (peaking and magnification), the EVF is very good, and the feel/size of the camera in my hands is also excellent. Haven't taken enough decent shots to post yet.
Lack of Sony E lenses isn't an issue for me - I shoot either the old kit lens, a tamron 18-200, or legacy glass (Leica, CV, Olympys Zuiko) which work very well for my purposes.
 
I tried one out and liked it more than my 5N. The size was just a tad taller and the built in VF is really nice. It's view is identical to the EVF for the 5N but being part of the camera, makes it so much better. The button layout was a little better than the 5N as well. Focus assist and peaking for manual lenses appears to be the same. Which isn't a bad thing as the 5N is fairly easy in that regard, though not as good as the GXR - better focus assist and FA button placement on the Ricoh.

But... it didn't focus my lenses (Sigma 19mm and 30mm, Tamron 18-200mm) any faster. They probably aren't firmwared up to take advantage of the 6s hybrid AF. So, although it is definitely a better body, it 's really not enough to make me want to lose money by dumping a more than capable 5N.

Interesting. Probably no good reason to switch from the 5N then, other than the VF perhaps. I use the 19 and 30 Sigmas and have no interest in using manual lenses. Focus speed is adequate with my 5N, don't really need anything faster.

Maybe need to lean towards the 7 and higher MP count/better IQ???????

I was actually sold on the XE-1 untill I tried the Nex6 at photoplus expo last month. Now i'am debating since the NEX6 with the new 35mm 1.8 sony lens seems to be a very nice combo. My worry is that sonys other lenses (including the 35mm 1.8) are going to be not as good as the fuji lenses. The Zeiss lenses are beyond my financial resources since they are all going to be over $1000.
