Nex 6

The focus speed is adequate, but slow compared to DSLR AF. But not horrible. I'm assuming the 6 and newer generations with the hybrid AF and the newer lenses will be faster.

I'm not sure if the higher megapixel count really matters. The 5N is adequate to print to say 20x30" and the increase storage needs and bigger files to process might not be worth it. I'd probably chose the 6 over the 7 if I had to get anything. Sticking with the 5N for now.

I have a 7. On one hand, I'm jealous that the 6 apparently doesn't have trouble with RF wides. On the other hand, I don't own any RF lenses that the 7 has trouble with. So really, I need to stay right where I am. 🙂

Yeah, I agree. As a stock photographer I have never found a need for anything bigger than 12MP personally. So likewise, will probably just stick to the 5N for the moment.

I was actually sold on the XE-1 untill I tried the Nex6 at photoplus expo last month. Now i'am debating since the NEX6 with the new 35mm 1.8 sony lens seems to be a very nice combo. My worry is that sonys other lenses (including the 35mm 1.8) are going to be not as good as the fuji lenses. The Zeiss lenses are beyond my financial resources since they are all going to be over $1000.

stompyq. I use the 19 and 30 Sigmas on my NEX and they are really good. I might buy the Zeiss 24, but haven't made up my mind yet. Experience has shown me that the Fuji lenses are superior to the Sony lenses. The Sony lenses that I have used so far have been extremely disappointing!

For me the button layout is more than a little better but YMMV of course. The increased size and feel as I said I also prefer over the 5n (which I have used a lot). I'm keeping my 5n but more as a P&S without the add-on EVF I used before.
There is a firmware update for a couple of older E zoom lenses and probably more to come. You need to have the lens on the camera when you update.

I'am torn between this and the fuji XE-1. The sony doesn't seem to have a lot of good lenses while the fuji lenses seem to be much better (I really don't care about legacy glass).

Do you like classic controls like shutter speed dials and aperture rings? If so, the Fuji is the clear winner. With regard to IQ, both are right up there with the best, so you cannot go wrong either way.

Does anyone feel the space between the grip and the lens mount to be tight?
I tried handling the camera in the store and could not help feeling my fingers are being squeezed.

I own (and love) the NEX-7 (which is a fantastic partner for my M8 in my bag!)
But if I had to decide at the moment, I would go for a NEX-6.

Yes, the NEX-7 offers some things the NEX-6 doesn't have, but for me those are of minor importance. The NEX-6 is considerably cheaper and likes superwide M-lenses better. 😉

But, since I already have the NEX-7, I don't see a real reason to sell it and buy the NEX-6. (The only one of my lenses that shows a colour shift with my NEX-7 is the CV Heliar 4.5/15.)

Don't know whether it is worth mentioning but the NEX 7 with £100 cash back from Sony is cheaper than the NEX 6 right now in the UK.

I wonder how long this will last? It seems that Sony are using the NEX 6 launch to push sales of the NEX 7...or something...weird!!!

I spent time in stores playing with both today. Certainly very nice and focus peaking (or whatever it is called) is great but...they are not range finder cameras and, hate to say it as someone who has had Leicas since 1965, they are not objects of desire...

I got my NEX-6 last week. It's a great little camera ! I use to have the NEX-5. The EVF is a great addition. I'm glad that they put the standard hot shoe on top of it. The IQ is great, the ISO are very good. Even the pop up flash gives good results. The camera feels solid. Overall, it's a great photographic tool. I've been using it with my M glass (12mm, 28mm and 50mm). Also, there is no colorshift in the corners with the 12mm (unlike with the NEX-5). I'll test it in the White Moutains this weekend !

Got my NEX6 a couple of weeks ago. My thought:

• Focus peaking via the EVF is SO much better and faster than focus peaking via the LCD (I used to have an NEX5). The only time when focus peaking doesn't "peak" as clearly is when shooting at f1.2 at minimum focus (esp. when using my Hawk's focusing helicoid) - but that may be asking too much.
• Love the Fn button - set it up once, then the display shows your choices - ISO - WB - Qual, etc... up to 6.
• The 16-50mm is great; just ordered the SIgma 30mm; been using a few M mount lenses; haven't used my F lenses yet.

My only complaint - why did they change the AC adapter. I hate the new one that requires the battery to be in camera while charging. I bought one of the old chargers, so I'm happy now.

At the moment I can't justify getting the 6 as I've only had the 5N for a year. But it is tempting.

However, I've been bothered by the overall AF performance of the 5N on more than a few occasions so I'm curious to find out if Sony has made a meaningful improvement in this area.

You don't like it because the experience is not like using a rangefinder? None of these mirrorless cameras are like rangefinders but they're very reliable bodies that produce great IQ with legacy lenses. Surely the picture is the thing rather than how the camera works?

Improved menu and controls has been mentioned over the NEX-5N. Is the auto ISO function still the same as on 5N? What I need is user control of the shutter speed switching point.

Excellent point. And if something is quick and easy to focus and shoot, it doesn't get in the way. But it doesn't have to be a rangefinder.

For my primary uses however, the rangefinder is the best implementation I have tried thus far.

Yes, the hype started me believing that the experience might be like a rangefinder, and no it is not, but as others have said, it is pretty damn good way of taking pictures!
