Just bought one!!!!! Impressed so far (apart from how long it takes for the battery to charge).
So apart from a spare battery what "extras" are good to look at first?

After I got my NEX6, I bought all of the following:

1. Get a "real charger" like the one packaged with the NEX5; I don't like the NEX6 method of charging the battery in-camera.
2. Get a strap, case and LCD protective cover.
3. Get an external flash (with adapter) - if you need it

If you plan to used M lenses, get a Hawk Peng helicoid adapter for M mount lenses, or other adapters for other mounts.

I use a Sony 16-50mm, Sony 10-18mm and Sigma 30mm, and a variety of M lenses. Here's an image shot with the NEX6 and 10-18mm.

Just don't buy the kit zoom. 😉 I did, regretfully. I bought a third-party charger for it. Enjoy it!

Thanks all. Enjoying it so far and would even more if it stopped raining! Only lens I have at the moment is the 16mm f/2.8

The extra charger suggested above is sound advice if you're getting extra batteries. That way you can continue to use the camera while the empty ones are recharging.

Other than that, with the 16/2.8 on the NEX-6, you're good for the time being; it's much more flexible than its single focal length suggests. The 16 is very, very sharp in the center, and allows a fair bit of cropping there. Use that experience to find out what your future lens needs are.

Oh, and there's one thing you really, really have to do, and that's to enable the quick-navi. Why it is off by default is a mystery to me; because once enabled, you can access all necessary shooting options without menu diving.

To those who has them-
How does the 16mm (sony I presume) compare with sigma's 19mm?
and
I've been looking at the metabones adapter, how does the Hawk Helo compare in build quality? Does the close focus/normal range lock in place positively?

sony's 16mm lens is just awful anywhere near the corners, all kids of smearing. Sigma 19 is very good.

My experience is different; the 16 is an excellent lens in my view. True, the corners may not seem as sharp as the center at f2.8-f4, but that says more about the center than about the corners. The center is wicked sharp. At smaller apertures, corner sharpness catches up, exactly as you would need it in practical applications. Emphasis on the center when shooting at large aperture (e.g. portraits), emphasis even over the frame when shooting at small aperture (e.g. landscapes)..

The "old" 18-55 is an excellent kit zoom, in fact I regret shunning it the first few months after I started using the Nex. (You just need to use software correction to correct the distortion now and then.)

Been trying to understand "power save". I think I am right that if the camera is hanging around my neck (so that the proximity sensor has turned on the viewfinder) than power save will not operate?

I plan to buy one later this year. I'll get it with a M-mount to NEX adapter as I primarily intend to use my M-mount lenses on it. I'll also get the Sony - ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone accessory as one of the things I want the NEX 6 for is its ability to do video.

I understand the Sony 10-18mm f/4 lens is excellent, but I have no experience using it.

Been trying to understand "power save"..

Same here, a complete mystery. I just can't figure out what's actually happening and why. I do notice that the 16-50 retracts after a while, but the time elapsed before it does that doesn't seem to be related to anything specific that I consciously do. As long as I keep the shutter halfway pressed, it doesn't collapse, but a random time after that, it does, even while when I'm menu diving or viewing images..

This is one of the things to be aware of when deciding between the 18-55 and 16-50.. The 18-55 doesn't lose its zoom setting when you power down, the 16-50 collapses and goes to 16 everytime power save kicks in.

So I'm waiting for the battery to charge in camera because the store was out of chargers, 280mins, hope the battery charge is faster or maybe cause its the first charge; and I'm reading the manual. It say's that when using the LCD you get approx 360 images but with the viewfinder only 270? is it a miss print or does the viewfinder draw more power?

Thnx, Michel: yes, I was referring to the 16-50. I mean, it isn't too terrible, but compared to a pre-asph Summicron, well, not so hot.
