I have been reading a lot about the NEX not handling wides very well. I am very new to the NEX world but have not had any issues with wides that I can think of. The widest lens I have is the 15mm ZM and hereis a sample of what the NEX-7 did with it. Am I missing something here?

The "normal" complaints with the NEX 7 and wide lenses are color shifting in corners and loos of sharpness near edges. Neither seem to be problems in your image, which looks pretty good. I have used a CV 15mm on my NEX 7m, and the color shift is evident.
I shot that with the center filter which comes with the lens. I wonder if that would help in your case.

It's not easy to say anything about corner sharpness without having access to the original 24Mp file.
Concerning color issues, Distagon lenses, like the Zeiss 15/2.8, are more friendly with digital sensors than Biogons, which are more symmetrical designs. Therefore, it's not surprising that the color drift in the corners is quite acceptable.
If you look at the bottom right corner though, you'll see a noticeable magenta cast compared to the centre of the image which has a general greenish hue.
