Hello

I wonder if someone could help.

Is it possible to change the contrast
and saturation of the EVF on the Nex-7 ?
As I find it very unnatural and contrasty,
especially compare to the Om-D EVF.

Thanks for any help.

Adjustments made to the Creative Style Settings are reflected in the EVF. I usually shoot my NEX7 in monochrome for previsualization, and I have the contrast turned way down.

Please correct me, but believe that there is a second menu setting which turns on and off effects in the viewfinder... ie. the creative style settings. So, you must turn this on to see the changes.

Also shooting in monochrome can help with the focus peaking if you're in a marginal light/contrast situation.

and sunglasses/transitions (photochromic) lenses can greatly reduce usefulness of EVF. A big love optical viewfinder moment....

There are photography books with many page chapters on how to visualize a photo and how to see like the camera sees... And today all you need is a camera with an EVF!

You are correct - I should have mentioned that.

But doesn't this effect the pictures also
not just the EVF ?

Thanks

i run an x100. can any of you compare the x100's evf to the nex-7's for me? and is it "easy" to focus manual focus lenses with the nex-7's evf?

I don't have an X100, but IMO yes - it's very easy to focus MF lenses on my NEX7. I have peaking turned on, and when I mount MF glass I have the center button of the AF/MF/AEL switch (which falls right under my thumb) assigned to image magnification. (When I use AF glass that same button is assigned to AF on.)

Then NEX-7 has a much better EVF by all measures, but it isn't an optical viewfinder. So, the comparison cuts both ways. Manual focus is a joy with the NEX-7, except with sunglasses on, or when wearing transition lenses while in the sun.

Yes and no. You can adjust the raw file any way you like in the raw converter, but "creative styles" does affect the default view of the image when it first opens in the raw converter.

Hmmm… I've never noticed that. But I use a custom setting in ACR so I don't think I ever see the "creative styles" settings.

Too true with transitions lenses. Fortunately I can use the EVF without my glasses so it works pretty well for me.

thanks, guys, for your advice. after handling my future daughter-in-law's nex-5n, i have become very intrigued by the thought of a nex and 35mm slr or rf lens, or a pancake AF 50mm equivalent prime ...

The advantage of the 5n EVF is that it can be tilted up, whereas the one in the 7 can't. But I believe the displays are otherwise identical.

I had trouble with the 5n one day when I forgot to take my regular glasses along. I had on prescription sunglasses (polarized), and had severe trouble seeing either the LCD or the EVF.

I was able to remove my glasses and change the diopter to match my myopia, although the astigmatism still gets in the way. The EVF was much easier to work with in the bright sun than the LCD. Still a royal pain in the arse to take them off to focus/frame, since now I can only see the subject in the EVF and not with my other eye.

Yet, even with my regular glasses, it is sometimes easier to work with them off, since sunlight sneaks in from the side of my glasses and can cause problems.
