So when do you think the NEX prices will drop by say $100 or so at BH, Adorama, Sonystyle?
I realize the kit with both lens for $799 @ Sonystyle isn't that bad, but I'm more interested in using it with old MF Leica lens with an adapter, and don't want to be bothered ebaying off the kit lens.

I think the price in America is the cheapest for NEX. I paid US$1,000 equivalent for mine last month.

Nothing will happen til next year as the two lens kit $150 rebate ends Dec 31.

It's a hot camera right now. Retailers won't have to discount much and it'll still sell well through the holiday season.

Hmm, almost every week, one of the u4/3 systems is going down in price significantly. Even the M9 can be had discounted off of list price.
Previously, only sony direct was offering the 2 lens w/NEX 5 for USD $799, now several other vendors are matching that.
I bet it goes down by black friday.

I doubt it. Sony has a very strict MAP program, you won't see advertised discounts off that. The $150 rebate for the two lens kit is available from all Sony dealers, so everyone advertises the same price.
The M9 needs a price reduction, IMHO. All the backorders that started on 9/9/9 have been filled...

Let's say it does stay the same all year. That will be the longest selling price I've seen for a non DSLR Sony, ever.
Since the camera is at walmart.com I think it may decrease in price el rapido!

I sure see a lot of NEX cameras for sale used already. Never fooled around with one. Is there some major "gotcha" with the camera?
Same old same old, turnover happens with every digital. There is a 'gotcha'...it's like a D300 in IQ, except better; and size-wize it's not much larger than a rear lens cap.
I'm really enjoying mine.

right, but I'm looking for the silver nex 5. If anyone wants the new zoom for ~200 I'd go for the kit now, but I am pretty sure there will be a drop before year end.
There will not be a NEX5 price drop before year end. I have the Sony price list marked week by week thru the end of the year.

Ok
Ok
The Sony price list might be fine. But trust me, that is not what the price is out the door of Best Buy, Walmart, or even SonyStyle.com.
I'm interested in out the door prices, not MSRPs.

The NEX cameras are part of the Sony SURE pricing program. All resellers have them at the same price. If any authorized dealer sells below SURE they are at risk of losing their Sony authorization. In the case of Sony, street = MSRP = SURE.

Are Amazon and Abes with the NEX 3/16-2.8 kit at $480 to $490 with free shipping going to lose their Sony authorization?

NEX 3 with 16mm and kit zoom for $649!!! at Ritz Camera.
Yes, every Sony Dealer can sell at the $649 level.
Here is what my Sony rep told me about those who violate SURE:
"You are right that it is not fair. In fact these companies that are violating the SURE policy will be delt with. That is why I ask for Names of the dealers that I can pass on. There is a SURE team that exist and their soul responsibility is to research dealers everyday and enforce the SURE Policy. They will be cut off from ordering, but they will still be able to sell through their current inventory. The SURE Team will find these guys and take care of them. If you can provide Dealer Names it makes it easier. I know you have a lot of work ahead of you and do really have time to write down/ email every dealer, but when you think of it shoot it over my way and I can forward it to the team too."
