Last night and this morning, we got about a foot of new snow. Temps were sub zero last night, and well below freezing today. I did get out for a short walk with the nex with temps around 18 deg. F. I had 4 layers of clothing on, and used the same bag I've always used my M8 in with a single lens, this case logic with a bit of insulation:
I had a CV 21/4 lens on, and put in a fresh battery, with a spare in the front pouch. After about 10 minutes (no gloves), it was too cold for me to shoot, so I put the camera in the bag, (it was cold too, at least the exterior), and zipped up the bag. After my hands warmed up in my pockets, about 10 minutes later, I shot for another 10 minutes, then walked home.
The battery still has 98% capacity according to the camera, while my M8's would usually lose about 1/3rd charge just being out in that cold.
Not sure how it would have done longer, but with an aftermarket battery or two, I'm pretty sure the NEX will outlast me on a cold shooting day. And of course, AF lenses would probably use more power.
