NFTA K-9 Officer Suspended For Threatening Buffalo Photographer

Yippee! Seriously, this is a strong reminder that two people--or two groups of people--can usually sit down and work out solutions to issues such as this. All it takes is a little patience and understanding.

A couple years back I personally witnessed a photographer/police officer confrontation that escalated beyond where it needed to go because both parties over-reacted. The guy was a railfan shooting pictures from the street when accosted by a railroad cop who--in my opinion, at least--came on a little strong. The photog responded in kind and the shouting match was on. Eventually both parties walked away and nothing else happened but if they had both remained calm and actually talked and listened everything would have gone much smoother...

Well, he did make the threat "as a person, not as a police officer", which serves as a good reminder that, no matter what rights you have as a photographer, when you photograph strangers without their consent there's always the chance of pissing someone off to the point where he threatens to break your face. 🙂
