Still think $20 is too little if new content/research is to be created. I don’t mind paying $20 for access to the 100+ issues, but I also want new articles. I think the fee has to be higher to be sustainable.

Over here in USA, $20 a year doesn’t get you anything Geoff, mobile phone subscription is minimum $50 a month

I think you are wrong. You must be paying off on getting a smartphone through your subscription or you are grossly overpaying.
I pay €8/month for a a generous amount of data and talk (and buy my phone at market price) and I live in the second most expensive country in the EU.
Something is wrong in your perception of pricing.
Everyone has different viewpoints of what is affordable and/or economical.
@NIKON KIU isn't 'wrong' to argue that the membership fee is reasonable, although you may disagree with his analogy.
A $20 membership is less than the cost of one roll of film and lab development, maybe that is a more appropriate analogy for you?

It is the argument that I quoted which is plain wrong.
He can charge whatever he wants, but he fools himself if he thinks minimum $50 a month for a smartphone subscription is normal and holds the NHS subscription up against that.
For an apples-apples comparison we would need to know exactly what the €8/month plan includes, and exactly what the $50 plan includes. Since we don't know either, it's really getting off the real point, which is that NHS is not expensive.
FWIW, you can get unlimited text/talk/5G for as little as $19 in the US, all-in, with a major carrier (Verizon.) That's the cheapest I've seen for a major carrier. MVNO carriers might have cheaper deals but not likely with unlimited data.
