I recently acquired a Nicca IIIL, as seen in the first post on this thread (thanks, Flip).

Can anyone tell me how to extend the black rewind knob at the left edge of the camera? I have seen an old Japanese brochure that shows the knob extended. I am able to spin the knob in a clock-wise direction, but that it about it so far.

Just grip it, and pull up. I've got the YF, but it's been so long since I used it, I can't rememebr if you need to pull it all the way until it clears the top deck of the camera, or just half way. I need to send it to Mark Hama for an overhaul.

Sorry, just realised Yashica changed the design of the rewind, so I have no idea how it works on a IIIL.
 
I love this 1954 Nicca 3S and especially the then optional f/1.4 Nikkor-S lens.

It works differently.

On the IIIL, you need to roll your thumb against the edge of the knob and camera in such a way as to rotate the knob clockwise. After a few rolls, it will come up on its own. A reverse action lowers it.


The 100% 1:1 viewfinder of the IIIL is great - like a dedicated 50mm version of the Canon P finder, but with projected lines.

I mostly use a Tower 5 with Diax 35 1:1 finder and Hexanon glass as my daily. Just another great Nicca camera.
 
Thanks, Flip. I tried this method a number of times, but could not get the knob to pop up. After some careful investigations of the rewind knob and internal film rewind forks, I am pretty sure that the spring the lifts the knob is missing, or not installed correctly. I have sent the camera to Ken Ruth for an overhaul and repair.
