Anybody familiar with the Nicca "Leica like" rangefinder?

Yes. They are very well known, and very well made. My friend had one, but it got damaged in a fire. He sold it as a paperweight later, after I cleaned it up for him (and got too little for it, if I had known he was going to sell it so low, I'd have bought it).

Yes, I have used several Nicca/Tower cameras.
I first got a Nicca type 5 in 1989 and after a CLA I realized what fine cameras they were.

Stephen has a very informative page on the Nicca 5L at http://www.cameraquest.com/nicca.htm . Niccas seem to be highly regarded, often costing more than similar Leica III bodies.

I have a couple of the Tower/Nicca cameras and they are favorites. One is very quiet and its really nice.

I have the Sears Tower version of the Nicca 5, with lever wind. The camera is a beauty, very well made. I have also owned and used Nicca 3s, and have the same opinion. Nice cameras.

OK, I bought the Nicca today. It is a IIIA (1951-1952). The body is in very good condition with just two small dings and the shutter works, BUT the lens, which is a Nikkor-H.C
5cm f2 is dented all around the top. Can this be repaired or should I start looking for a replacement lens?

Dented in what way? If you mean around the front, it probably isn't work repairing unless you want to use a hood or filters with that lens.

Yes, all around the front. However a Kodak Series IV will fit over it. The glass looks ok and the aperture works, so I guess I will try it out. I am a bit OCD about my stuff and i will probably look for another lens. Any suggestions?

Is it a collapsible Nikkor?

check the curtains- My Nicca III needed new curtains, is quite nice now. Mine came with the earlier collapsible Nikkor.

If the glass is nice on the Nikkor, you should use it with the Series VI filter. If you must have a nice looking lens, maybe put yours up for sale or for trade.
