Just curious, what is the purpose or need of posting of camera and/or lens pictures into Gallery?

Mikhail, I'm with you. The forum might be about hardware, but I've always understood the intention behind the Gallery to be the creation of a place to post images created with the hardware we love; not as a place to show pictures of that hardware.
That's my 2 cents, anyway. Not that I'm about to lose sleep over it.

Not that I lost sleep either.
Actually, I never understood the need to take picture of camera with other camera anyway. But that's beside the point, perhaps.
Then again, I could never understand the need to explore what is one's favorite (or least favorite) focal length, or for example weather one need to photograph a cat with summicron rigid or with summicron collapsible and so forrh... "Man has to know his limitations"(c)

I can think of a few reasons to take pictures of my camera.
1. When selling it.
2. When sending it out for repair.
3. When camera received is much less then was advertised.
4. In mirror to identify which camera took which pictures. Probably an indication that you have too many cameras.

I've never posted a picture of a camera (except to show something related to a discussion), but I really enjoy to see pictures of beautiful cameras among other subjects. Why not? Just skip them if you find them disturbing.

I also love to see beautiful cameras themselves in photos, not just the photos they took.

I like to see photos of folks cameras. Sometimes they are of models I'm not familiar with and it's nice to see a picture.

I'm very interested in what this or that camera looks like. Luckily, this forum is very diverse and we can all look or not look at all sorts of pix and posts.

People here love photography. They also love their gear.

Mikhail has a point -- I get the "pure porn" threads -- "Show us your Nikoflex!" and others, but posting a picture of gear to the galleries is a little odd, artfully though it may be composed and lit.

Why not? People post photos of cars, cats, buildings, flowers, & humans, too, & there's probably someone who objects to or fails to appreciate photographs of any number of those subjects.
Yeah, but in the *Gallery*??

I find it very odd when people post threads which appear to have the intent of disparaging other people's pleasures.
But then, I'm pretty odd, myself

I post pictures of cameras and lenses to the gallery for three reasons:
- Selling them on RFF
- Writing a post and about the specific gear item and needing to illustrate a point
- Submitting an image to the "show us an image of...." threads

I love cameras as beautiful machines. Love looking at them (and other machines.
I could ask "What is the purpose of posting pictures of [ . . . ] in the gallery?"

It only irks me when they get more views than mine...
