Nickel 50/2Voigtlander Heliar

Hello - New to the forum and first post. I'm also new to the Leica screwmount world. Im shooting with a 1951 Leica IIIf with a Summitar 50/2 collapsible.

A friend offered me a 10th Anniversary Nickel 50/2 Voigtlander Heliar. Never used, with box (two box) and all the fixings for $500. Serial R057

I really know very little about these types of lenses.

Seems like a good deal to me.. Should I jump on this?

Thanks! That settles it.. I'm going to pick it up. Its a pretty thing to say the least. It apparently comes with an M adapter. So I'm assuming that if I get M6 one day I can still use this lens.

It's a great lens and the price is right.
Not sure about it as a collectable. They seem to go in th $500 on a regular basis.
As an everyday 50mm it's nearly impossible to beat at $500. a beautifully rendering lens!
I loved the look but could not quite get used to the ergonomics mounted on my M5.
I prefer not a large lens but larger than the Heliar ( I use a ZM Planar now).
The Heliar is quite petite!

Love mine! Still available new for USD 799, so 500 is a good price.

Apart from that, that thing is sharp as an eagle's eye!

Interesting; to me the Heliar is a 1900's variation on the Cooke Triplet, modified again and fitted to my old Voigtlander Brilliant, so I guess they have revived an old name for a new lens, or what?

PS It must have been good as the Heliar version was about 40% dearer than the normal one in the 30's.

I have one, it's a lovely object to own. But more important it's a very good lens, I use it both on my Bessa R or on my M7. Don't let it go away!

It's a lovely lens and I should use mine more often....
I usually pair it up either on my M2, or even better, on my IIIf, which looks simply gorgeous!

Based on all the feedback here; I'm pretty stoked about getting some shots in with it. I went ahead and attached it mid roll. Might as well see if there is any leakage. The last image I posted disappeared, so I'll try again. Thanks for sharing your opinions and photos! 🙂

One of the attractive things about the 2/50 Heliar is that it is an "authentic" Heliar in its 5/3 optical arrangement. And the fastest such ever produced. In history, the Heliar has been popular in medium format and large format applications, up to f/2.8 aperture.

I think this nickel limited edition is easier to use than the bayonet-mount standard version, largely because it doesn't collapse, and the controls are a bit easier to feel. And you can use a 6-bit coded bayonet-mount adapter if you want to put it on a digital M Leica.

Hope and expect you will enjoy it! BTW, there's a dedicated hood made for it...
