I hope your terse commentary implies that you like it!

Last summer a guy I met threw an old FE and Nikor 135 at me, basically stating that it once worked, it was his Dad's, would never get used again, etc, etc. After a new set of batteries it really did work... and quite well. After adding a $10 ebay MD-11 it worked even better. I chuckle when the FE is maligned because it has become a very useful SLR camera.

You betcha I like mine. It generally gets raves here and the other forums I frequent. In fact, I would not have it if not for an RFF'er. The easy Nikon diopter available is a critical element to my ernjoyment of the FE2: no reading glasses needed!
I intend to get a minty FM2n before too long so I can have the comfort of a purely mechanical version.
The cams are very RF-like in the hand ...

I thought about a mechanical version too. The guy who gave me the FE iniitally thought it was a FM of some version. He apologized when he gave me the camera because it wasn't. He thought a mechanical FM would be a great backup to my F3. I quickly told him that I haven't had one, not one, instance of needing a mechanical backup... and I've been using the F3 non-stop since 1982 (or maybe 1983). If one has the discipline to keep a spare battery, one will never be left high-and-dry.
