Hi, I am looking for a Nikkor 35/1.8, and noticed that there are chrome and black versions. Is this mainly cosmetic, or are there differences in the optical formula. Thanks for your help

there are 2 versions, black with a black aperture ring (big dollars), black with a chrome aperture ring, $400-800, no difference in the formula, only the coatings, serial numbers range from 3518xx - 360xxx,

There is a third version too. The remade 35f1.8 that comes with the SP 2005. Modern coating but otherwise the same as the older ones. Difficult to find as it is usually attached to a $4000+ 2005 SP.

She is a wonderful piece of glass. Might be the only one I keep when it comes to the next wave of sales.

with the couple of lenses that I've owned, froom 351xxx -358xxx, I've noticed different colors in the coatings on the lens front surface, I don't own one right now so i could not give more info or a photo.

The 3.5cm f/1.8 is probably my favorite 35mm lens.
