As i have both systems (Nikon and Contax) I was choosing between Nikkor 180mm ED and Sonnar. But today I found on _bay quite good deal on Nikkor (small scratch on the front element, so priced accordingly) and... oh this impulse buying, I hate myself... So now I am thinking - should I have spent more time comparing those two lenses? Will I regret my impulse? Any first had experiences with both lenses?

Both lenses are superb. Which is in cleaner condition?

I have already bought Nikkor, so the question is if I did not rush with this purchase. What I am looking for is not only sharpness, but also bokeh, 3d look.

Which nikon, AF or AIS?
Front element scratches usually make no difference.
the nikon AIS ED is my sharpest long lens by a fair margin

You can always resell the nikon--but I doubt you will be disappointed
one of the very best nikons ever ground, and sharp right at 2.8
downside is size and weight.
I paid 235 about a year ago--mine has some marks on the front element also.
The contax might be sexier, but I very much doubt it will out-perform the nikon.

So long as the lens is optically and mechanically sound I do not think you will be disappointed with that big coke bottle of a lens you just bought.

The AIS-ED is a great lens and selling mine was a cause of regret for many years (though in retrospect, it was a good idea to make that college tuition payment). Sharp at 2.8, blistering at 5.6, built like a tank, and works well with a 1.4 TC.
