These are truly wonderful images... whatever the lens!! Great portraits all! Thanks for posting them.
Thanks, but I'm tellin' ya — it's the 50E.
I've spent a fortune on the following (in order):
M mount: (original 1950s) Zeiss 50mm f1.5; Leica Summilux; Leica Summicron DR 50; Zeiss 50mm f2 Planar; Leica 50mm Summilux-ASPH.
SLR: Canon 50/1.4 EF; Contax 50/1.4 Planar-N; Nikon 50/1.2 AIS; Nikon 50/1.8 AFD; Contax 50/1.4 MM; Sigma 50/1.4 AF; Pentax 50/1.4 SMC; Leica Summicron-R; Nikon 50/1.8G.
+Contax G45.
Of them, i still have only the Canon 50EF and this Nikon Series E. I LIKE the Canon. It's got AF, it's small enough, light enough, does good bokeh, and is sharp enough. I LOVE the 50E. Tiny, cheap, great bokeh (at least at certain apertures), tonality that's both vintage/classic without being soft/flare-y.
Here's a link to a forum post about the 50 E that i found a few years ago, way before i was convinced to buy the lens, by someone else's flickr images. Scroll to the end, Lewis Lang's second post:

He makes it sound like there is some sort of beautiful voodoo at work. But, i can't prove there isn't.
