Nikkor 85/2

What about verision 2 Summicron ? That's more in my budget right now, though since I plan to pick up a TE shortly, I'll delay getting the next 90 for a little bit and I might be able to hold out for a version 3. That said, how is the v2 Summicron? Is there a notable difference between it and the v3's ?

xayraa33 - all i can say is WOW!!!!! huge. The hoods really beef them up eh.

That is a nice collection you've got going there. And great guitar 😉

Memphis -- what would you suggest for a longer focal length/fast glass combination? I imagine by that point you're talking SLR system. If I were to pick up an old SLR system, I'm thinking it would be along the lines of an F1, though I did a quick look.. and nothing too fast with FD mount.

What would you suggest?

So far I've been graced with close proximity and good lighting; I've been using the Summitar, but I'll be taking out my Canon FL 55/1.2 (in M-mount) for the next round of shows.

What do you use ?

Oh okay, very much along the lines of what I'm using/looking at.

I've got a Canon FL 55/1.2, but because its soo big, I might look into also getting a Canon RF 50/1.4. I saw a Summarit go for a really nice price the other day, missing infinity lock, $173 US.

I'm just utterly broke right now so am going to focus my attention away from eBay and alluring RFF posts and more on being out shooting. I could go on endless about the possibilities and what would be more ideal that what I've got... but end of the day, if I don't use what I have enough I wouldn't know the difference anyway, between what I want, need or is most beneficial to me.

For now I'm gonna stick with the TE 90/2.8 I just picked up* and shoot at 800 ISO or push my 400 ISO.

*as in it's not even in the mail yet, hopefully it will be on its way by wed!

So you'd pick the Summarit over the Canon 1.4 eh ?

Yeah, I have a Summitar as well and really like the look of it, esp. wide open. SO I wonder if I want to continue on with the same look or have a varied bunch to choose from, depending on the subject. time will tell..

The SLR version is a bit different, optically, then its RF version because the distance of the rear element had to be changed to clear the mirror. The SLR version is one of my favorite Nikkor F-mount lenses and I used it for many years for newspaper and magazine work. I think it was never so popular because more people prefer the slightly longer reach of the 105/2.5 in SLR (and RF).

All things being equal, an RF lens is easier to focus than an SLR lens. However, in either SLR or RF, the 85/2 or 90/2 focal length is among the most unforgiving due to shallow depth of field ... less than a centimeter at close focus.

Weight: Nikkor 8.5cm Chrome vs Black

Weight: Nikkor 8.5cm Chrome vs Black

Chrome=570g; Black=400g

I know the 90/2 Summicron that came out with the M4-P weighs 470g, but it sounds like you're talking about an earlier version?

Which chrome version of the Nikkor 85/2 do you have? How much does it weigh?
