I'd like to purchase a good quality adapter to fit my Nikkor lenses to my Canon F1. Any recommendations.

Thanks
Joe

Be very careful. Canon FD register distance is 42mm and the same for the Nikon F is 46.5mm. As far as I know, the "lensless" adapters in the market does not allow infinity focusing (only close and macro ranges) and the ones having lenses deteriorate the IQ considerably.

On the auction site you can find a lot of such adapters however check the specifications of each before deciding. I know the breech lock of the FD-mount and the much simpler bayonet of the F-mount. I doubt if someone has suceeded to squeeze the female-male mounts into 4.5mm (very unlikely..)

The N adapter does not have such a problem.

Raid is right. The problem arises when the register of the guest lens you want to use is shorter than the lens register of the host body. In that case, the extra extension will keep the lens from focusing to infinity w/o optical (glass) tricks. When the register of the guest lens is longer than the lens register of the host body, all you need for infinity focus is something that allows the lens to sit at its own lens register distance -- a thicker adapter. This does not transfer diaphragm linkages, of course.
He's also right, that with the cost of film cameras now, it is likely to be a better deal to buy a Nikon body.
I know, it makes me cry, too. I love the F1.
