Could anyone tell me more about the layout of this lens (F mount) or direct me to a source? I have one (uncoated? no "C") and I have another one coming. The results I get with this little lens remind me strongly of pictures I made with my Summicron DR (since traded away) and I wondered if the designs were similar.

It's single coated.
A very good lens, but the DR will easily out resolve it in the center.
The Nikkor is much much better than the DR when it comes to price 🙂
I like mine because it feels so right on my F, and I like the ergonomics of the all metal scalloped focus ring.

BTW, I could be wrong and the H could be single coated, while the H-C is multi coated...

[edit] yup, seems I was wrong...

Probably true about the center resolution, but of course I'm comparing pics made handheld, in old hands at that, on 125 film. You're certainly right about tha price. DR seems to go north of $900 and the N-H I just bought at KEH cost me $45 in EX condition. I too love the feel of it on the F. I only bought this new one because mine is a bit loosey-goosey in focusing.
Thanks for your response.

I should have known someone would have done all this work for me, and once again, RFF comes through. I like most of all your last paragraph, which bears repeating here:
"Conclusion: you will make your own, but my conclusion is, that it is better to take photos with what you have, than agonize about what you don't have, thinking that this limits your expressive abilities."
Thanks again.

The 50 f2 Nikkor has always been one of my favorites. It's cheap, it's sharp and the bokeh isn't that bad. The only thing with Nikkors is that they seem to suffer from less than great focus feel compaired to Leica R however I've never been disappointed by the NIkkor.
