hi, all. i'm new here. i have a long history in photography in Europe as well as here in Australia. I have recently bought an R4M and the 28/1.9, 40/1.4 and the 90/3.5 lenses. a good kit i think. after 40 years shooting BW, then 10 years digital i'm now back to film. and i read this forum with great interest. one thing i see a lot of is a refernce to Nikkor lenses for rangefinder cameras. i presume people refer to the Nikon RFs but there seems an implication of the poss to use Nikkor lenses on Voigtlanders. i can't imagine this unless there is an adaptor. i know CameraQuest provide the 4/3rds adaptor for various lenses (Leica Digilux 3 for Nikkor lenses), are there such adaptors which allow Nikkor lenses to fit on the Voigties? apologies if this question is inappropriate. cheers, dj in oz.

Most of the classic Nikkor lenses were also made in Leica thread mount. The 5cm F1.4, 5cm F2, 3.5cm F2.5, 3.5cm F3.5, 8.5cm f2, 10.5cm F2.5, and 13.5cm F3.5 are all readily available in LTM. Then, you just need the LTM to M adapter fopr them.

Additionally, there is an adapter to use Nikon S-Mount lenses on M-Mount cameras, and a recent one for LTM cameras. These are "Orion" adapter (made in the 1950's) "knock-offs". They are available on Ebay for $180~$240. These are custom made out of old camera helicals, usually from a Kiev, Contax, or old Nikon in "for-parts" condition. The 3.5cm F1.8 lens CANNOT be used with this style adapter, the back of the lens hits the RF pickup of the Bessa/Leica.

Just to add, I use a 1950 Nikkor 5cm f1.4in S-Mount on my Bessa R2 with one of these "Orion knock-offs" with very good results. Focus is spot-on.

Hi and Welcome,
Screw-mount Nikkors could be used with the proper adapter just like the old Leitz screw-mount lenses.
Using Nikon RF mount Nikkors are a little more complicated.

PS: Brian beat me to it.

And I have a third Orion-knockoff adapter headed my way. This one is in Leica thread mount. In M-Mount. I have one for Nikkor lenses and another for Zeiss lenses. The first test roll of the Zeiss adapter look good. There is an extra arch cut into the RF cam to correct the focus error between Zeiss (~52.3mm) and Leica (51.6mm).

cheers, i will keep my eyes open for these options. i'll break in the current new toys on a road trip before i jump into the search for more lenses. dead of winter here and the sun is doing great things to the landscape. my favorite Nikkor lens for my 1970s F2A was/is the 85/f2 which i keep in top notch condition and still shoot with. i'll have a look next time i'm in melbourne, at one of the classics shops. thanks for your input.

Here are some pictorial examples 🙂

I'm quite proud of this set, stunning lenses IMO, and perfect for the M3:

The 105/2.5 is not so bad either:

So is the 35/1.8 in LTM, but I never got the courage to buy one from *bay.
Very expensive.

Cheers,

Roland.
