Hello guys !

Got a few questions on this lens that seems to be very rare !

It seems that there's several versions existing in Ltm..
I saw some with the "C" inscription and other only with the "M".

What are the differences between them ?

I saw one with the "N" engraving only in Ltm, what's it's value for you ?
It seems to be very expensive !

It's the same as the one shown on the M6 here :

Thanks a lot for your informations and keep shooting !

On S mount lenses, I thought the "C" inscription designated the Contax mount, but for LTM, this would be irrelevant.

I'm looking forward to seeing the reply.

It is a super rare lens. I was given the opportunity to pay $10K for one, but turned it down.

"C" usually in red also stands for "coated" and is on thefront area of the lens that contains its details (for example N-C 5cm F1:1 would mean nine element coated lens). The Contax "C" is usually near the base of a Contax/S-mount lens and is engraved into the chrome or black, with quote marks, to distinguish the Contax mount.

There's only one LTM version of the Nikkor-N 5cm F1.1. The lens pictured on the Leica M6 at your linked website is a Nikon S-mount lens (external mount version) attached to the M6 using an Orion/Amedeo type adapter.

No Contax mount versions of this lens were ever made, so I think the "C" you mentioned is the red C that indicates lens coating. Earlier lenses have it to advertise the fact that the optical elements have single coating, but it was dropped on later lenses because by then all lenses by all manufacturers were coated anyway. The optical formula is the same for all lenses.

I have no idea what the "M" engraving is... an engraving mistake maybe? Do you have a photo?

Thanks for all the informations.

Not a "M" but "N" engraving.

I didn't know that there were some S to Ltm adapter !

"N" - You must be talking about the Nikkor-N . N stands for 9 elements in the lens. And as Jon mention, the C after the N stands for coated.

Looks like an S > LTM adapter to me. Maybe the new owner got lucky and scored an original Orion adapter!
