Nikkor-P 1:2.0 8.5cm Samples

Decide when you can compare both lenses side by side. Preferably with both on a tripod shooting exactly the same scene at exactly the same time. The Nikkor is smaller, both in outside diameter and I seem to recall in overall length as well. Less expensive too. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

The chrome Nikkor is sharper at 2.8 and much smaller, but almost equally heavy.
The Summicron focuses closer, and wide-open, has better bokeh. But
lacks the Sonnar "3D effect".

Roland,

I find the Summicron equally sharp as the Nikkor. 😀

All your shots are very nice. Also i own the Nikkor 85 mm f/ 2 in LTM mount, that i have bought together the LTM Nikkor 135 mm f/ 3,5 two years ago, from Luigi Crescenzi in Rome. Both are excellent performers.
Ciao.

Is there a M39 version of this lens? All I can find on eBay is Nikon rangefinder bayonet mount which is apparently not compatible.

Am looking for a 90mm for my M2 and this lens really looks the goods. Would be great if I can find a reasonably priced example.

Use the Leica M Adapter with the LTM lens. It is very simple. Such an adapter sells for $30-$45.

This lens was available in Leica Thread Mount, Nikon S-Mount, and Contax mount. I have all three. The LTM version is a bit longer and heavier. I use it mainly with a Canon 7, but it will work fine with an adapter.

They go in cycles on EvilBay. Keep you eyes open and check other sources (e.g. KEH, Pacific Rim Camera). Black ones are hard to find, but chrome come up every month or so. Broaden your search criteria to include 8.5cm, nikon, rare, nikkor. Some times folks miss list them and it seems the best bargains happen that way. Also, check sold prices so that if you see a buy it now and know if you want to pull the trigger or not.

I've had several lenses in that length (including a 'Cron) and the Nikkor is worth the wait!

I have posted this pic before. 85/2 Nikkor in Contax mount, scale focused (yeah, I missed the potrait by just a bit). I love this lens.

I got great results with my Nikon 85/2 and the M8, however I wouldn't rank f2 shots as sharp, f2.8 however are very sharp. I like it a lot f2 and f2.8. Infinity shots are also not as sharp as closeups.
